Samsung's new over-the-air digital (ATSC) set top box, the SIR-T165. Based on Samsung's award-winning set top box technology, this model features what is noted by industry experts as the most sensitive HDTV tuner available. Like the lower end SIR-T151, this model offers access to "FREE" over-the-air DTV for consumers ready to start enjoying all the benefits of digital television in addition to FireWire (IEEE 1394) and DVI (Digital Video Interface) connections.
Uniquely able to output all DTV native resolutions (1080i, 720p, 480p and 480i) through a selectable output, the SIR-T65 offers universal compatibility with any DTV monitor currently on the market, whether it's CRT, plasma, LCD or DLP. Tune into and decode all 18 approved ATSC DTV broadcast formats and Dolby Digital(R) DTV broadcasts (5.1 Channels) for crisp audio. Support for Favorite Channel and Closed Caption functions, an easy-to-use On-Screen Menu system and universal remote control (compatible with TV, VCR, CATV and DVD) ensure ease of navigation and operation.
For the Home Theater enthusiast, the SIR-T165 adds the benefits of advanced digital connectors, DVI and FireWire. DVI promises a true all-digital connection for no loss of quality in image or sound when used with a DV compatible DTV Monitors. FireWire allows the connection of high-end devices such as a DVHS deck for recording programming in digital format.

This model is among the few set top boxes that outputs a 720p (progressive scan) picture, a unique resolution for the Home Theater enthusiast, with no perceivable artifacts when converting from 1080i. The dynamic set top box offers control over aspect ratio while in 480P and 480i modes, allowing viewers to make screen size adjustments for a 16:9 picture on a 4:3 set and a 4:3 picture on a 16:9 set. Output connections are selectable: 15 pin D-Sub or via Component Video Y, Pb, or Pr connections. NTSC 480i output makes the unit compatible with devices featuring an S-Video or standard composite video output. Additionally, when 480i is selected, the menu OSD is activated for connecting to an analog TV.
