Manufacturer's Description
DVD-RAM/DVD-R Recording
The VDR-M50 uses either DVD-RAM or DVD-R discs, giving you multiple recording and playback options. DVD-R discs are tough and versatile, and can be played back on most home DVD players. However, DVD-RAM discs allow you to record and erase, just like videotapes. DVD-RAM discs can also be played back in compatible devices, like select computers and home DVD-players.
Built-in SD Memory Card Drive
Panasonic's DVD Palmcorder Camcorders also record onto SD Memory Cards. SD cards are versatile, high-capacity storage cards that are extremely small - about the size of a postage stamp. They work as "digital film," letting you capture images and then transfer them to a PC, TV, PDA, or other device equipped with an SD slot.
18x Optical Zoom/500x Digital Zoom
The VDR-M50 features an 18x Variable Speed Zoom which produces close-up shots with extraordinary clarity. And with the variable zoom speeds, you can adjust how fast the camcorder lens moves from wide-angle to full telephoto. The digital zoom ratio can be increased to an impressive 500 times on the VDR-M50, producing an incredibly close shot. This way you'll end up with a great picture no matter how far away you shoot from.
Quick Scene Search/Rapid Playback
Unlike videotapes, DVDs need no rewinding or fast-forwarding to search for specific scenes. The camcorder`s LCD displays a list of the recorded scenes for quick, easy searching. Images recorded onto DVD-RAM or DVD-R discs can also be played on a DVD recorder or DVD player, so you don`t have to hook the camcorder up to a TV to watch your recordings.
Easy Video Editing without a PC
You can select the scenes you've shot onto a disc and arrange them to play back in any order you want. You can create your own scenarios, and then save them into a playlist with seamless transitions between scenes.
Still Image Recording
In addition to moving images, the VDR-M50 can also record still images (640 x 480 pixels) onto a DVD-RAM disc (alongside your video recordings), or onto an SD Memory Card.
Smooth PC Linking
DVD-RAM discs are standardized, making them ideal for transferring recorded data to a PC. The VDR-M50 and VDR-M70 record video in the MPEG2 format, which can be easily processed by a PC for advanced editing capabilities.
Digital Electronic Image Stabilization
Digital EIS is a unique idea that helps compensate for unintentional hand and/or camcorder movement. It even reduces unwanted jitter from recordings made in a car, or while walking
Color Viewfinder
To save battery power during recording and playback, the VDR-M50 comes with a color viewfinder that can be used instead of the LCD.
