i really like my new speakers. the only complaint i have about them is that the power switch is on the back. i had bought these to put on top of a book case out of my kids reach. it is a hassle to turn them of and on with the switch on the back. beyond that, it seems like audioengine put a lot of thought into the product. i also bought "out of box" speakers. they appear perfect and work perfect.. a good way to save a few bucks for sure!

These are self-powered speakers and they should be used as such. I use them for my computer and iPod (uncompressed files) and they sound excellent. Soon, I will add a USB digital to analog converter which should help improve the sound quite a bit. If you use them on a desk, be sure to isolate them from the desktop and try to space them as much as possible from adjacent walls to avoid boominess.

These are extremely well engineered speakers. They sound awesome for their size and price. I am also impressed with all of the cables they come with and cloth covers.

For desktop computer (nearfield) use, best if elevated so that tweeters are ear level. I used Sterilite 3 drawer containers to get 7 inches. I also use Herbies Audio White Monitor Stand Pads to minimize vibrations.

I use them to play lossless WMA music files through a Creative X-Fi, and they sound great. I use them in a small room and they will fill it up and then some. Their sound is very clean and uncolored. They will reveal any deficiencies in your signal chain (e.g. playing highly compressed MP3's through your motherboard's built-in sound port). But if you pair them with high-quality source material and other high-quality components, you should get great results. As others have noted, their bass response is fine for their size, but to get the deepest bass, they really need to be paired with a good, small subwoofer. I shopped around a bit and OneCall seemed to have the best price. I'd never done business with them before, so I was a little apprehensive. But everything worked out great. I'd definitely recommend both the product and the vendor.
