Macro mode that enables youto bring the lens as close as 0.4 inches to the subject

Macro mode is most convenient when you are taking an enlarged picture of a small object. It allows you to place your lens very close to the subject, as close as 1cm / 0.4inches (on the wide-angle setting). Use the super-macro features of the camera to get near small creatures and other objects to obtain optimum images and enjoyment from the beautiful and enchanting underwater environment.

The working distance when taking photos in the macro-mode is from 1cm / 0.4inches to ∞ with the wide-angle setting and from 4cm / 1.6inches to ∞ with the telephoto setting. The macro mode allows minute details of small objects to be captured that ordinarily would not be captured and to be represented vividly. The camera is equipped with a full array of functions for close-up photography, such as Zoom Macro mode (minimum shooting distance: approx. 1cm / 0.4inch) that makes the object appear larger than in the ordinary macro mode and the ability to shift the target of auto-focusing without changing the picture composition.

* When using the macro mode, press the shutter half way to fix focus and exposure then take the picture.

Superior image representation, with a CCD having 10.01 million effective pixels
The camera is equipped with a 1/1.75 charge coupled device (CCD) image sensor having 10.01 million effective pixels, which offers superior resolution and the ability to vividly record every detail of your precious moments. (The maximum recordable number of pixels is 3648x2736) The Smooth Imaging Engine II faithfully reproduces every detail of the picture, and outputs high-quality, low-noise images. In this way, detailed and realistic images are created that are suitable for enlargement.

24-72mm 3x optical zoom lens designed for use in a variety of situations
The focal length of the 3x optical zoom lens is 5.1 to 15.3mm, or 24 to 72mm on a conventional 35-mm film camera. The lens has a maximum aperture (f-stop value) from f2.5 to f4.4. The perspective can be adjusted precisely according to your style with the wide-angle setting to capture the dynamic environment. In addition, unique visual effects can be used to enhance your pictures. The step zoom function enables the zoom focal length to be fixed in five increments, at 24mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm and 72mm, equivalent to a conventional film camera. The lens construction consists of 11 elements in seven groups, utilizing aspherical and special low-dispersion glass lenses with high refractive index.

Compatible with Raw data storage
The three picture quality modes are Fine (F), Normal (N) and RAW. The RAW mode (DNG format file) allows the images to be processed on personal computers and high quality images to be recorded. A JPEG file (in the picture quality: Fine (F), Normal (N) or N640) associated with the RAW format file can also be recorded at the same time.

Vibration correction function for capturing precious moments precisely

The camera is equipped with a CCD shift-method vibration correction function, which is exceptionally effective in stabilizing images when the shutter is pressed. The function prevents images from being blurred by hand motion. The function is also effective when you want to take a picture without using a strobe thereby capturing the ambience of the scene.

2.5-inch LCD monitor with a wide display

The camera is equipped with a 2.5-inch, 230,000-pixel LCD monitor. The monitor can be clearly viewed horizontally or vertically from a 170 degrees angle, which enables you to enjoy photographing even underwater where the light can be reflected diffusely while viewing a clear image and shooting mode on the screen. The picture image and data can be easily confirmed by using the histogram display, which allows you to control the exposure more precisely while taking test photographs on the monitor using the different luminance distribution of the picture image. The monitor also features grid guide display (when in the shooting mode) and white saturation highlights display (when in the playback mode).

Equipped with Sea & Sea Mode for Optimum Underwater Photography
The SEA&SEA mode, which captures the beautiful blue color of the sea, is a still picture mode that has been developed for underwater photography. The ideal color balance is based on the many years of underwater imaging experience at SEA&SEA. It enables anyone to capture a great image as easily as possible. Also, the SEA&SEA mode is optimum for taking photographs using the SEA&SEA accessories (strobe and others), as the ISO sensitivity is automatically set at 100. Capturing images of the underwater world has never been easier while diving or snorkeling.

Equipped with aperture priority mode / manual exposure mode
In addition to the auto shooting mode that allows you to casually take pictures while allowing the camera to take care of all the details, the 1G camera also provides scene modes that accommodate a wide range of subjects and photographic situations. In addition, 3 modes: A (aperture priority), M (manual exposure) and P (program) allow you to enjoy creative photography to its fullest. The A (aperture priority) mode, allows control by setting the camera`s aperture, enabling you to take a picture while keeping the aperture fully open so that the areas around the subject and the background of the subject are blurry. Alternatively, while using the A mode, you can reduce the aperture to create a very long depth of field, so that everything is in focus. It is a very convenient function for underwater photography. The aperture can be set in 12 increments from the narrowest aperture to fully open, thereby allowing you precise control of the exposure.

Diverse photographic functions to suit your photographic style
The aspect ratio can be selected from three choices, namely 4:3, 3:2 (which is the same as with 35-mm film cameras), and 1:1. You can enjoy photography similar to that performed with a medium-sized camera. Pictures in the nostalgic tone of sepia can also be taken, in addition to monochrome.

Battery system for 340 pictures, compatible with AAA batteries
The 1G camera is compatible with three types of power source, namely the rechargeable battery*1, AAA batteries*1 and AC adapter*1. The high-performance rechargeable battery allows about 340 pictures*2 to be taken. Also, the readily available AAA batteries allow about 30 pictures*2 to be taken, making them convenient if you need to replace the batteries while you are traveling. Oxyride batteries and Nickel-hydrogen batteries can also be used.

Compatible with SDHC memory card suitable for storing a large number of high image quality pictures
The recording medium is MMC, an SDHC / SD memory card. It is equipped with a 26-MB built-in memory. Large-volume and superior image-quality data can be stored, as the medium is compatible with 4-GB SDHC memory. The capacity provides you with all memory you need when taking photography.

An external light source is a critical forgood underwater photography
When an external strobe is used, the image acquires greater brilliance as an abundance of light is shed and it reaches further than the built-in flash, particularly when the subject is further away.

Colors like red and orange are absorbed underwater, so the deeper you go, the more prevalent blue becomes. This is why an external strobe, a high-power artificial light, is used to bring out the inherent colors of the underwater objects. Since the built-in flash does not have a strong intensity, the light is unable to reach objects that are further away. Using the external strobe at an angle is an effective means of preventing floating particles - called backscatter from reflecting light in your picture.

When the subject is further away in macro photography, the entire picture tends to be under-exposed (dark) because there is insufficient light reaching the subject.
