Best Uses:
Travel, Portraits, Photojournalism, Landscape, Art
Describe Yourself:

Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

This is an awesome camera. This is by no means a novice camera, like a D90. The camera is a bit heavy but compared to the very similar D3 its much lighter. The camera doesn't have image stabilization, that's in the lenses. I recently took this camera out on a road trip to the Rockies and southern UT. and got amazing results. All the setting are easy to change, you just have to know how to set everything. Highly recommended if you can afford it, much better than the D300/D90.

Fantastic in every way. Far superior to the Canon 5D and 5D Mark II. Solid weather sealed body, incredible AF system and high ISO performance, very responsive and the best ergonomics. OneCall was great too, shipped it to me right away and it was packed very securely. Highly recommend both the D700 and OneCall.

Great Camera at High ISO
By Elaine from Charlotte, NC on 9/15/2008
Pros:
Small Lag Time, Bright LCD, Comfortable Controls, Quiet
Describe Yourself:
Pro Photographer
Bottom Line:

Previously owned a 5d. I now have 2 d300's and a d700.Just got sick of the focusing issues with Canon. I love the focus capabilities of the Nikon. My second shooter was shooting with a 5d at a wedding and it wouldn't focus at night at all. Mine locked focus quickly and fired off several shots while she was trying to get a focus!

A digital cousin to the Nikon F100

Cons:
Pricey

Very clean images right out of the camera. More so than the Nikon D300. Bullet-proof build quality. FX format is such a welcome feature and the reason that I sold my D300 and bought the D700.
