Denon DVD-1800BD

I ordered this Denon Blu-ray player to replace my HD-DVD player, which is now obsolete. The picture and audio quality for both Blu-ray and HD-DVD appears to be exactly the same. The Denon is significantly faster loading a disc than the HD-DVD- player, but it's still not as fast as a standard DVD player. I selected this Denon player to complement my Denon receiver. I've owned various Denon components over the years and have never had a problem with any of them. I have it connected via an HDMI cable, which makes setup very easy. One nit about the remote: the scan forward and back buttons are much larger than the next track and previous track buttons. That's exactly opposite how I would prefer them, and I find myself accidentally pressing the wrong button (scan back rather than previous track) all the time. The player includes an SD card slot, supposedly for viewing photos, but it's not a useful feature. If I want to view photos on my TV, I'll do it via my computer. Besides, I don't have any SD cards since my digital camera doesn't use them.

No frills. Just great picture and great sound.

I'm using this player for BD only since I have the 2930ci for upscaling. For BD it's great. Load times are shorter then most players I've seen. On my Samsung 46'' 650 ToC LCD the image is fantastic! I'm using the HDMI connection and playing through the AVR-2310ci with the "people's choice" Orb Audio speakers attached. Incredible!

Looking for Blu Ray in combination with high quality audio for CD playing. This was the best that I could find given that I had Denon Amp already. Actually surprised at how good the audio was playing CDs. For video, also very good and upconverts DVDs with very good quality. Can't really compare since replacing older DVD player (also Denon)where I was using Component cable with the new unit and HDMI cable. Biggest difference I noticed was where movies used to be in letterbox with black stripes up/down I now get a full screen HD.

The picture and sound from this player are great. I like that it's faster to load a movie than my old Sony. I got this to upgrade from a Sony BDP S300 that just wasn't capable of many of the new features found on Blu-ray discs now. I have it connected via HDMI to a Denon 4308 receiver. Everything was great until I put in Kill Bill Vol 1. The player locked up. Same with Kill Bill Vol 2, and Pirates of the Caribbean 3 just showed "loading" for ten minutes. This model player isn't even listed on Denon's online support. I have been trying for 2 weeks to get a response from Denon's online support. I finally called them. I was told there is a firmware update, but the person on the phone could not find it, I was put on hold while he asked the supervisor how to get the update. That person didn't know either. I think a player that was released late last year I shouldn't have issues with movies that have been out for quite awhile. I also think that it should be listed in the support section of Denon's website by now. I agree with another reviewer that the build quality of this does not live up to what I have come to expect from Denon. It's light weight, and feels cheap.
