Onkyo DV-BD606
The Onkyo DV-BD606 delivers full 1080p video at 24 frames per second, the native frame rate for most original motion pictures and HD content. This ensures that the user will be able to experience the playback of films recorded to Blu-ray with the smoothest, most stable reproduction possible. It features an HDMI v. 1.3a output, and is fully compatible with the Deep Color™ standard for over 1 billion possible colors. The HDMI connection also delivers bitstream output of both Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio™ codecs for decoding in compatible processor or receiver, such as recently introduced models from Onkyo. The DV-BD606 includes a front-panel SD card slot, necessary to take advantage of the Bonus View™ picture-in-picture capability, giving consumers access to the interactive content available on many Blu-ray discs. It is compatible with legacy DVDs as well as Blu_ray discs, including internal video upscaling to 1080p. It is also capable of playing CD, Video CD, CD-R/RW, DVD±R/RW, DivX, WMA, JPG and even MP3 encoded discs.

Tried this product because of an exceptional price. I am a fan of Onkyo (own two 906s and many others prior) and thought this might complement my setup nicely. Unfortunately, I was disappointed by this player in three principle areas: featureset, speed, and upscaling quality. It cannot decode the lossless audio codecs. Most $200 players can. Yes, you can bitstream, but you cannot connect this player directly to a tv and get lossless audio codecs for two channel. It is not profile 2.0 - no ethernet connection and no firmware updates done easily over the internet. It also cannot force 24fps - a $200 panasonic can. Its speed is very mediocre at best. It takes roughly 24 seconds for the eject tray to open wen powered off. Compared to the 1 and 2 second times many others have, it is annoyingly slow. For disc load times, Casino Royale took 45s to Sony screen (the JVC took 18 s and Oppo 16). Heavy Java discs like Pirates of C took longer 1m 2s till disney screen (the JVC took 27s, Oppo 31s) The Onkyo puts out a reasonable upscaled DVD image, but pushes red causing semi-sun tans or blushing of most people's faces. I tested it using the synthetic tests and its performance was mediocre, tripping on many film cadences and show jaggies in some video-based tests. I found my oppo, pioneer 320, and JVC XV-BP1 were superior, In a nutshell, if one had an option of this player or the $200 JVC XV-BP1, I would tell folks to buy the JVC time and time again. Its synthetic and real-world performance are superior.
