Good Point and amp; Shoot but SO Much More.
By ScooterRV Verified Buyer from Pacific NorthWET on 12/31/2009
Pros:
Great Zoom, Good in Low Light, Short Lag Time, Small / Compact, Large Clear LCD, Good Image Stabilization
Best Uses:
Travel, Video, Wildlife photos, Indoors/Low Light, Family Photos
Describe Yourself:
Photo Enthusiast
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I was looking for a camera to take on the road with us when we move into our RV and this was recommended by my BIL who is a professional photog. Altho not always intuitive, once the manual is consulted (hard to do on the road or in the field) the Lumix works like a dream.

Perfect as your SLR stand-in
By That Girl Again Verified Buyer from Honolulu, HI on 7/1/2009
Pros:
Great Picture Quality, Easy Setup, Bright LCD
Cons:
Separate Lens Cap
Best Uses:
Travel, Photojournalism, Family Photos
Describe Yourself:
Photo Enthusiast
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I bought this camera specifically so I didn't have to lug around my SLR camera and digital video camera on a long vacation with multiple stops. I wanted to take "SLR pictures" but I didn't want to haul around my SLR -- especially at theme parks. The Panasonic DMC-LX3 was absolutely perfect. Highlights: 1) Wide-angle. Wider than most point-n-shoots out there. 2) Fast lens. 2.0mm actually lets you have selective focus. 3) HD video. A requirement so I could leave the video camera at home. Drawbacks: 1) Separate lens cap. It's usually a given that point-n-shoots have integrated lens caps. Unfortunately, the LX3 doesn't. It slows you down a little (having to take it off each time), but more concerning is the fact that the cap popped off when it was in my bag. 2) Limited telephoto. Because of my style of photography, I find the wide-angle more useful than telephoto. However, I did find myself wanting more zoom every now and again. Anyone who uses zoom on a regular basis (or is use to having a camera with more than 2x zoom) should reconsider. Summary: I couldn't be happier. It takes fabulous photos and I didn't think twice hauling it around while on vacation.

Good camera - a bit pricy
By Petey Verified Buyer from Philadelphia, PA on 4/14/2009
Pros:
Bright LCD, Great Picture Quality, Easy Setup
Cons:
Short Battery Life, Weak Construction, Manual lens cap
Best Uses:
Family Photos, Travel
Describe Yourself:
Casual Photographer
Bottom Line:
Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Takes clear, accurate color, photos most of the time. Not sure if it is worth 2x the cost of other decent P and amp;S cameras. Controls are a bit loose and the manual lens cap is a real drag. Battery life and flash could be better.
