Comments about Boston Acoustics Voyager RK8T2 River Rock 8-inch River Rock Outdoor Speaker:

I bought two of these to use as surround speakers in my outdoor theater setup and stereo music fill speakers.

The speakers themselves are pretty big, but they blend pretty well in my backyard with the help of the shrubs. From the front, there is no doubt that they are a speaker, but from the back side, they really do look like rocks. I plan on adding some surrounding stones to help blend them in more so they don't appear to be a big rock sitting on the bark dust.

I have not played them much yet, but in my tests, they sounded really good. I did notice that they took a decent amount of power in to play, but the sound was clear with no traces of distortion. The bass is OK, but outdoors is a difficult environment to work with. I am glad that I bought the 8 inch driver. My impression is that anything less would have been underwhelming.

The speaker actually has two tweeters and is designed to be wired as a "stereo in one", but I plan on just wiring them together and driving them as a single channel.

The cables that come out the bottom of the speaker are relatively short. Again, it is a stereo pair that comes out the bottom. There is some space under the rock, so you can make your connections and coil the wire underneath. It was nice that they supplied waterproof wire nuts in the package.

I did open up the bottom panel to see how hard it would be to direct wire the speakers. It was pretty easy to open, taking only a handful of screws and the panel is sealed with a rubber gasket. Inside, the external wires are just connected to the internal wiring with more waterproof wire nuts, so it will be easy to direct connect. The only problem with swapping out your own wires is that everything is caulked with a sealant, and you would have to tear all of that apart and reseal. I have not run my buried lines yet, so I have not decided which path I'll take. I do like the fact that Boston Acoustics has given you the choice. Kudos to them.

Overall, I am happy with my purchase.

This speaker sounds awesome. I was a little skeptical about having stereo feeds into one speaker but it sounds great. I have no complaints at all except I wish had room for more!

Comments about Boston Acoustics Voyager RK8T2 River Rock 8-inch River Rock Outdoor Speaker:

Connected them to the secondary on a Yamaha 867 in our back yard. As recommended by Polk, we placed them nearly against the patio wall, in stereo and they sound great. Good volume and clarity for listeners in the grass and just the right amount of reflected sound for those on the patio.
