    I had my eye on this product from the day it came on the market. I grew up in a house where separate audio components were the norm and midi/mini systems were looked down on because of their poor sound quality. KEF are a high-end British speaker manufacturer with a long illustrious history. I'm currently living in Japan and am in no way settled yet so I was looking for something that I could hook my ipod up to at home and which I could bring with me whenever I moved to a different city/country. Of course there are lots of docking speaker systems on the market but when you are used to high-end sound, listening to your music on something plastic and tinny is hard to do and you usually end up just not listening to your music instead of subjecting yourself to rubbish sound reproduction.
    The KEF Picoforte has solved my problem. Its speakers' weightiness is impressive. The remote control will allow you to do anything except scroll quickly through lists. Sound separation is excellent as is stereo projection. For some listeners it will probably be a little light on bass. I notice there is an optional sub-woofer, which would solve that problem. Obviously KEF decided on this so they wouldn't have to compromise on sound quality.
    In short, this is the best iPOD dockign speaker system going. It is also compatible with all other MP3 players. It's not something you would take with you to the park or the beach, but rather something that will not look out of place in the living room of design conscious audiophile.

    The highs sound really good but there is absolutely no low tones from these speakers. You really need to add a sub to make them sound ok. I knew it would not charge an iPhone but it does work with it. I have the 3g s and the remote works flawlessly. It stopped working but when I upgraded the iPhone to 3.1 then it started to work again. I have a Klipsch iGroove SXT that sounds much better but the remote and abilitly to move the speakers around are nice features with the KEF. I have not added a sub but may do so and I am sure that will change it all together.

    Product is well designed and very well built. Quality is better than I expected. Sound quality is excellent - for a very small speaker system. Excellent separation and imaging. Don't expect it to rattle the walls. Well suited for use in an office, bedroom, etc. I use this in my office; I'm considering purchasing another for use in bedroom.

      This was a christmas present for my wife. I'll echo what many of the other reviews have expressed: these speakers need serious break-in! Out of the box, they are harsh, tinny, almost metallic-sounding. They have broken in nicely, however, over 100+ hours since I bought them. I had a spare 8" powered sub sitting around, so I hooked it up to the sub-out. The sub really adds needed depth and weight to the sound.All-in-all, I'm happy with this unit at the clearance price. I wouldn't have been happy had I spent $400.

      Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

      For OneCall's current price, this is by far the best iPod docking station on the market. I was able to add a small 6.5" sub under my desk at work and it sounds very rich. Also bought a second Kef unit for my son for christmas and paired it with a nice Sony 10" sub that has variable crossover allowing you to more closely blend the sound between the Kef speakers and the sub. No, this doesn't match the quality of my separates by any means, but if I had spent $200+ on a better sub, it definitely rivals a small receiver and monitors for at least double the price. It's that good for a smallish room.

      Only two cons - as others have written, you need a sub. The Kef's are too thin without them. Plus, it won't charge the newer iPods/iPhones, but if you pick up a Scosche Passport adapter for about $25 you solve that problem.

      Bottom Line Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
