Description
A spacious, three-dimensional sonic image is what you'll get from the Q Series. That's because its state-of-the-art Uni-Q® driver array—measuring 6.5" precisely positions the 1" tweeter inside the midrange driver. You get a more accurately focused soundstage, so movies surround you with realism, and music feels like the performers are right in the room! Gold-plated, bi-wire-compatible, 5-way binding posts provide a simple way to transfer a superior signal from your receiver.
Whether as main speakers, music speakers for your study or family room, rear speakers in a home theatre system or general purpose speakers for multi-room set-ups, the two new Q bookshelf models open up a world of audiophile quality sound at a surprisingly affordable price.

The sound they make is even more surprising: lush, spacious and precisely defined, with compelling midrange/HF response and solid, immaculately controlled bass. The two models – Q100, with a 130mm (5.25in.) Uni-Q array and Q300 with the 165mm (6.5in.) variant – deliver all the benefits of the Uni-Q ‘point source’ configuration in its latest and most refined form: a more accurate sound image dispersed more evenly throughout the room than is possible with any conventional speaker.

Subjectively, it makes a huge difference. Because everyone in the room is enveloped in the same beautifully integrated three-dimensional sound image, viewing becomes more of a shared experience – and you no longer have to stay in the same spot to get the full enjoyment from your favourite tracks.

Technology with soul
A groundbreaking new Uni-Q array that conjures up a fluent, spacious and incredibly realistic 3D sound stage you can enjoy wherever you sit. A spectacular new high performance LF driver that delivers deeper, cleaner and more accurate bass. And a ‘total design’ approach, with obsessive attention to detail and the pleasures of ownership. These are the qualities that set the new Q Series apart.

All new Uni-Q array
Thanks to the latest computer modelling techniques, years of painstaking development and a dash of design genius, the new iteration of the Uni-Q concept packs a formidable complement of design innovations. Based on the state-of-the-art HF driver developed for Concept Blade, the new Q boasts a much larger (25mm/1 in. dome) tweeter for increased sensitivity and distortion-free power handling. It plays as loud as it plays true.

The vented tweeter design allows upper registers to be reproduced with startling clarity and smoothes the transition to midrange frequencies. The dome assembly is cleverly braced, pushing the first breakup beyond the audible range so that the sound you hear is flawlessly accurate. And to make sure everyone in the room enjoys the benefit, KEF’s distinctive ‘tangerine’ waveguide over the dome maximises Uni-Q’s exceptionally wide dispersion characteristics.

At lower frequencies, the superlight new aluminium cone of the LF/MF drive unit delivers noticeably faster, cleaner response. This is enhanced by KEF’s unique Z-flex surround, which allows the extreme excursions needed to deliver a truly visceral thump while also maintaining a seamlessly smooth surface to disperse the high frequencies from the tweeter.

The ensemble is a masterpiece of modern acoustic engineering. Vocals suddenly seem much more immediate – more open and natural. Surrounded by sound of such clarity, you start hearing things you never did before. Nuances in the way an instrument’s played. The sound of a distant cricket in an outside scene. A breath, even. And best of all, you don’t have to be in a little ‘sweet spot’ to experience it. With KEF Uni-Q, you can sit where you want and not miss a thing. All you hear is what the artist intended.

Advanced bass technologies
Featuring rigid new aluminium cone technology just like the Uni-Q array, the new Q Series advanced bass driver is a tour de force in its own right. A die-cast aluminium chassis rigidly locates the high efficiency vented magnet assembly to prevent unwanted resonance, and the large (50mm) voice coil ensures impressive power handling. Its musicality is impeccable: seductively tuneful and well controlled, and on the floorstanding models, complemented by dedicated front-firing auxiliary bass radiators (ABRs).

Deep, fast and powerful, this outstanding bass response is enhanced by new enclosures with massive internal bracing to eliminate resonance – and importantly, over 30% more volume than their predecessors. For movie effects, this noticeably enhances the realism of the sound when combined with the newly assertive midrange.

Total system design
The performance envelope of these sensational new drive units is so generous that the signal needs minimal intermediation – simple first order crossovers are all that’s required, as you can tell from the transparency of the sound and the inaudibly fluent transitions.

You can see KEF’s legendary attention to detail everywhere. Gold plated bi-wire terminals for the clearest possible signal transmission, for example. Or the spikes on the floorstanders – they’re adjustable from the top instead of the bottom to make levelling easier. Thoughtful touches.

As you might expect from a company of perfectionists, we see more to the ownership experience than simply luxuriating in the best possible sound. We think about the environment too. When you unpack your new Q speakers, you’ll find that the packaging that protects them is ecologically sound. Because the crossover circuit boards are smaller, the materials impact is reduced.

And when you admire their sumptuous finish – in Black Oak, English Cherry or European Walnut – you can do so in the knowledge that what looks like a fine exotic hardwood veneer is in fact recycled wood fibre. This total design approach is another aspect of the difference with KEF. It’s all about weaving truly great sound into the fabric of the lives we live now.

my first review was well ummmm lame, these speakers are fantastic. Some of the things i love about them are pinpoint imaging, deep and wide sound stage in a 15X20 room and decent bass(considering the laws of physics) i have them backed up with a svs pb10 sub that really envelops the whole room. This is pretty amazing considering the size of these monitors, also the treble is silky smooth and very easy to listin to for a long time, the front end of my system is a marantz sr6005 marantz cd5003 and pioneer 663 turntable with audioquest type 4 speaker cables.you MUST here these speakers

First let just say these kefs are the second set of components that ive bought from onecall, and if you have any doubts about buying from this company dont.they provide awsome customer service before and after the purchase at great prices. Now in regards to the kef q300s this is a well balanced monitor speaker,it plays different types of music extremley well.I bought these based only on the reviews from whathifi and couldnt be more happy with my purchace. The things you will notice with the qs are that there is no spotlighting or any one instrument calling attention to its self. These speakers have only been in my system for 1 day so they still need break in time and they will only get better.

Comments about KEF Q300 Cherry (Pr.) Bookshelf Speakers:

I bought these speakers as open box since they were going into a home theater shelf unit and if there were any minor blemishes they wouldn't be seen. To my surprise when I received them they were in perfect condition (original box, info, accessories, etc.). After hooking them up and living with them for over a month they still continue to blow me away. The 6.5" drivers offer a surprising amount of bass while still delivering clear highs and mid range. The listening sweetspot for these speakers is wider than I anticipated and they sound great from every seating position in my living room. They match perfectly with the q200c center speaker and offer warmth and detail in music, tv, and movies that I flat out didn't hear before. I can't recommend them more at this point.

Comments about KEF Q300 Cherry (Pr.) Bookshelf Speakers:

I was looking for a pair of bookshelf speakers in the $500-700 range and narrowed my search down to the Monitor Audio Silver RX-1 and KEF Q300, which I found based on the review from "What? Hi Fi." I decided to take a chance on the KEF due to it's uni-Q driver, larger size, and weight.

I burned the speakers in for approximately 60 hours before any critical listening and I am driving them with a 125 watt/channel Parasound New Classic 2125. I listen to CDs only with a Musical Fidelity V-DAC. No MP3s of any kind.

The main strength of these speakers is the imaging and mid range. The uni-Q drivers produce a great soundstage- wide and slightly taller than the speakers. The sweetspot is definitely larger than a traditional speaker design. Vocals are just spectacular as well as the midrange. Detail is great. I can hear more vocal layering in a lot of my favorite tracks, especially Abbey Road.

The KEF's bass extension rating seems to be accurate. I have a test tone CD and the bass does roll off significantly in the high 30 hz range. Sometimes I find the treble to be a little too bright, but I think it's the way certain albums are recorded. It would be great if they had a toggle switch on the back to change the tweeter from flat to, say, -2db. However, I don't find the treble fatiguing like a lot of metal dome tweeters and I think it's due to heavy damping of the tweeter assembly, which prevents ringing.

These speakers are larger than most bookshelf models and they weigh 17 lbs each. The KEFs require just a slight toe-in in my room to achieve optimal imaging, which is a large living room/dining room that's about 12x24ft with 15ft vaulted ceilings. They fill this large room just fine. I do recommend a sub for larger rooms, but no sub is probably ok for small a room (10x12ft). Good bass reproduction depends on the recording- older CDs from the 80s and early 90s weren't equalized very well and they tend to be bass shy. Anything released since the late 90s is usually good.

Make sure you have good amp as these KEFs are a little more inefficient than most designs these days. I would not recommend using them with a cheap receiver that lacks a good midrange or else you will probably only hear treble.

Fit and finish is above average. I got the cherry, which looks like slightly hazy laminate wood flooring (it doesn't shine like wood or a good quality vinyl). I like how the port is front mounted so that it can be placed in a room more easily without changing the tuning of the port (which happens if a rear ported design is too close to a wall). Port plugs are included and the cabinets have wall mounts already attached.

I compared them to my Monitor Audio Bronze B2 (I do NOT have a pair of the newer, BX2, but I would guess they are mostly the same since they seem to use the same drivers) and here's what I think:
Compared to the Q300, the B2 is boxy sounding and slightly muffled. The Q300 have superior imaging. Bass extension between the two models is about the same. The B2 is brighter than the Q300. The B2 has a better fit and finish. The B2 is a good speaker, especially for the price. But the Q300 is a better overall performer. The KEFs midrange is clearer and they don't sound constrained by their box size at all. I have not heard the MA Silver RX-1, but my guess is that the boxes are slightly too small since they are a little smaller than the B2 and BX2.

To sum up, if you want great midrange and you're on a budget, the KEF Q300 is the way to go. If you want big bass and bright treble, go with something else.

        Hope this helps.
