Description
1080P DLP® Display
High Definition Television display powered by Texas Instruments` latest 1080P DLP® chip. In combination with Mitsubishi exclusive light engines, over 2 million pixels of the highest high-def are delivered for the most detailed HD picture for a variety of today`s and tomorrow`s sources.

6-Color Light Engine
Mitsubishi's exclusive 1080p DLP® 6-Color Light Engine generates yellow, cyan and magenta directly for brighter colors, a wider range of colors and whiter whites.

xvColor™
x.v.Color™ is the new standard in high definition color! The x.v.Color™ Wide Color Palette enables more color than ever before for breathtaking realism and vivid, natural colors. Maximize High Definition color performance.

Deep Color
Deep Color creates smooth transitions between different shades and eliminates color bands and complements x.v.Color™`s wide color pallet. Enabled by HDMI™ 1.3, Deep Color goes beyond previous 8-bit HDTV.

PerfectColor™
PerfectColor™ is an exclusive Mitsubishi feature that gives your customer the ability to adjust the intensity of six separate colors independently of each other and separately for every input. PerfectColor™ is a full color matrix, much more powerful than a conventional color intensity control with red versus green color balance.

Plush1080p™
HDTVs can display any video signal. For a 1080p HDTV, even the high quality 720p and 1080i HDTV signals being broadcast need to be reformatted in order to fill the TV screen with a sharp, clear picture. Mitsubishi developed Plush1080p™ technology to do just this—with the highest quality possible. It scales the picture precisely, with minimal side effects. And 1080i, currently the most common form of HDTV signal, is spectacular at 1080p. The conversion is precise, resulting in previously unachievable detail and clarity. In short, Plush1080p™ technology makes everything else look better on a 1080p HDTV.

Tru1080p™ Processing
Keep your signal the way it was meant to be seen. Mitsubishi`s Tru1080p™ Processing maintains 1080p high definition signals as 1080p from beginning to end. All 1080p DVI-I, HDMI™, IEEE 1394 and 1080p Broadcast signals are passed through with no down conversions. The advancements of 1080p DLP® technology for HDTV viewing deliver over 2 million pixels to you on-screen for a full and true 1920 x 1080 resolution. With Mitsubishi 1080p DLP® HDTVs, you can experience the best that high definition has to offer today and be ready to enjoy all of the 1080p sources that are on the horizon.

4D Video Noise Reduction
Mitsubishi`s exclusive 4D Video Noise Reduction uses advanced algorithms to better identify video noise from fine detail and correct the signal rather than distort it. Video noise is caused by distortions in the video signal and makes the picture too look grainy or snowy. As signal resolutions improve with the introduction of DVD, digital cable/ satellite and HDTV, the loss of sharpness produced by most noise reduction circuits becomes more noticeable. Mitsubishi`s advanced 4D Video Noise Reduction corrects the image in four dimensions: horizontally, vertically, within each frame and across multiple frames to provide an image that is crystal clear and extraordinarily detailed.

DeepField™ Imager
DeepField™ Imager constantly adjusts brightness and contrast for optimum settings in all areas of the picture. It can even optimize complex scenes containing both dark and bright areas. DeepField™ Imager analyzes 135 sectors of the picture in real time. It determines the optimum blend of contrast and brightness settings within the picture using advanced Mitsubishi algorithms. Based on picture analysis it dynamically adjusts for areas that are too high or low in contrast and/or too dark or bright displaying the best balanced picture in every scene.

Video Modes: Brilliant / Bright / Natural / Game
Use the four picture video modes to adjust for optimum viewing in different room lighting and gaming applications. All modes are accessible via the VIDEO key on the remote control.

3D Ready
All Mitsubishi Diamond 1080p DLP HDTV's are "3D Ready". This feature allows you the ability to be immersed in your favorite video game, movie or sporting event. As more content becomes available in 3D, this functionality will develop into one of the most exciting HDTV experiences.

Easy Connect
Connectivity made easy! Mitsubishi`s ClearThought® Easy Connect simplifies set-up and day-to-day use. During set up, it recognizes each input as it is plugged in, prompts the user to name it, enters it into the Device Menu and only shows used inputs.

NetCommand® IR
This exclusive Mitsubishi feature provides the user with a true one–remote control home theater system for analog products. NetCommand IR® provides on-screen control of analog-connected products such as your AV receiver, DVD player, satellite receiver, and VCR. To set it up, you simply “tell" the television what products are connected and “teach it" their IR (infrared) commands. The TV will then take control, eliminating the coffee table clutter of remote controls. It`s capable of learning most IR remote control codes from standard home theater products, rather than relying on a preprogrammed library of codes.

This TV has an amazing picture in 1080i or 1080P, and makes a fantastic monitor (via HDMI) from 15-20 feet away. Power consumption is very low compared to current 65" or larger LCD's (about half). The Auto sensing / naming inputs make setup very easy, and the HDMI 1.3 / CEC audio makes cabling a dream (1 output via SPDIF back to the receiver - I would have liked TosLink, but still good). I have two 1080P HDMI sources (PC @ 1920 x 1080 60Hz, and 1080P Blu-Ray / HDDVD Combo) and one 1080i Digital Cable source via HDMI. There is a minor issue (minor, since I found a work around), where switching HDMI sources causes the TV to loose the signal source or format (might be from HDCP - not sure), but picking an input without an active signal as an interim, allows you to go back to the offending input and corrects the problem. I just set the PC to go to Power Management (monitor off) after 2 minutes, so when I switch to it, it doesn't have an active signal, until I move the mouse or touch the keyboard. It wakes up correctly, but not if you switch to it live from either DVD, or Digital Cable (weird, but true). The weight, and footprint of this set & matching base are a plus, for moving & cabling your components. All in all, I am very pleased. Lets hope that the DLP lamp relability issues have been resolved by now. Pay for a long warranty (3 - 5 years), and maybe the large screen LCD technology will have come down to earth, or resonable alternatives might exist.

I used the TV for 3 days before it started flashing the warning lights and requiring resets to work. The local Mitsubishi service picked up the set two days later. The service department called today to let me know the set will be returned day after tomorrow. (1 day short of the 3 week old delivery date)... Am I disappointed with the problem? You betcha! Considering the picture quality, would I do it again? You betcha! Can Mitsubishi be trusted to do what's right? We'll see, but I did sell their electronics, along with several other brands at a big box store for 10 years. I'm not ready to give up on them yet.

Comments about Mitsubishi WD-73736 73-inch 1080p DLP Rear Projection HDTV:

Great set. I leave it on Standard Format, to get the best picture quality. Depending on what I watch, the size of the picture changes (there is a different black boarder around the picture). On rare channels, I get an HD picture that fills the entire screen. That is awesome. Maybe as the broadcasters catch up with the big screen HD technology more channels will look like this. On the downside, there is very little mid-range sound from the built-in speakers, and no mid-range adjustment.
