Comments about Onkyo TX-NR609 7.2-Channel Home Theater Receiver:

My primary use for receiver are Movies, HDTV including sports, cable music channels.
I did have a professional "hook me up" as the owners manual was a bit overwhelming. As a speaker system I purchased the Energy 5.1 Classic Home Theater System. The installer said for my size room,(I'm in a 950 sq.ft.condo), a 7.2 system was more then I can use. However, I am very pleased with the surround sound, price of Receiver was reasonable as well, no complaints. One negative was my Sony CD/DVD player would not "communicate" w/Onkyo, so this was a disappointment.

7.1 sound processing is excellent. It is used in my theater room and both the sound and video passed through to an Epson 8700ub have generated awe inspiring comments from my friends.

Before the sale and after, the staff at 1Onecall have been extremely knowledgeable and professional. They answered all of my questions and offered helpful advice about firmware downloads and connecting to my wireless network with by Onkyo on the bottom floor and my router on the third floor. Thes folks are the best and I will always come back to them for future equipment needs.

Comments about Onkyo TX-NR609 7.2-Channel Home Theater Receiver:

I got this unit because I wanted to upgrade my old stereo with an AVR. I needed something easy to set up with zone 2 capability to the patio with my Bose outdoor speakers. I added an SVS center to go with my 1974-vintage Norman Lab speakers.

The sound is great and I have the capability to add rears & sub later. Plenty of sound setting such as THX. I was listening to Little Feat "Waiting for Columbus" live, you could make out all the instuments and even pinpont the audience shouts- great clarity & definition.

The downside was a problem with my Panasonic 50 in wide screen. The TV would not come on while connected (pilot blinking) and needed rebooting when the AVR was on. TV will only work if I turn the AVR on AFTER I turn on the TV! Onecall sent me another unit to try but it did the same thing. Neither Panasonic or Onkyo tech could help, BTW the call wait was terrible. However, Onecall rep gave me a hint to route all the sound through AVR but hardwire the vid connection staright to the TV- that's great and allows me to listen to music while watching CC news. So it's the 80% solution but does what I want. If anyone figures out what's wrong with my TV, I would be glad to hear it.

Curious if anyone has any opinion as to whether this is a good match for the Cambridge Audio Minx home theater speaker system? These speakers have gotten rave reviews for such a small system and am looking to pair it with a quality home theater receiver.

A powered Zone 2 would mean the speakers are powered by the receiver. Zone 2 line out provides the signal, but no power. You would either need to run that signal into an amplifier or have powered speakers.

The USB input on the receiver will not work with a wireless PS3 headphone.
It does not have the software on-board to communicate with the headphone.
The USB operates as a connection for WiFi or inputting music files.

            • Q:

I just bought this receiver from Onecall. I attached my ipod and all channels were working included Zone2. I adjusted a couple of settings and have lost sound through Zone2 which is the balance of speakers in my home. The only thing I see in the manual is it says Zone2 won't work with a digital input. I believe the ipod is digital input but it did work when I first set it up. Is there another area or areas I should be looking to correct to get Zone2 to fire?

Your ipod dock should work through the Zone 2 as long as you are not using a different digital source in your main area. Check to make sure that the Zone 2 is selected as on in the setup and that it is powered. Then make sure that it is turned on and the same source is selected (if it is your ipod).
