This product is great. we have had a handyman 8mm camera for some time but we never used it much because of how much of a pain it was to move the video off of the 8mm tape. This device has brought new life to the camera. We are busy copying all of our tapes to DVD and it is easy to use and quick to setup.

Looks good, great concept, but after spending over 4 hours on the phone with Sony tech support, it still won't record from my (almost new) Sony HDR-SR11, and on top of that, the Sony level 2 tech had me download everything from my camcorder onto to my PC without thinking there is now no way to download it in HD to a disc - thanks a lot. Tech support was no help, and now the vacation images I bought this $1500 worth of stuff for is lost - I want to send both camera and recorder back and get something else!

Comments about Sony VRD-MC6 DVDirect MC6 DVD Recorder:

We got our first video camera in 1984. Since that time, I have used virtually every format (VHS, VHS-C, 8mm and DV). Several years ago, I went through the very painful process of copying some old tapes to DVD using my computer and a software package. Rendering usually took hours.
This little unit is a direct to DVD recorder. So far I have transferred 50 hours of video tape to DVD. I started with the DV tapes first since they were the easiest. the DVDs look great. I am now transferring the VHS-C tapes.
The unit allows several types of transfer with cables or media cards. I have not tried to transfer images from media cards, but it looks easy. I have also copied the DVDs of my home videos using my computer and both Soney Vegas, and Pinnacle software with no problem

Comments about Sony VRD-MC6 DVDirect MC6 DVD Recorder:

I was skeptical, but bought this unit anyway because I could not use the software that came with my new HD camcorder. There seemed to be a conflict and the only way I could watch my videos was to attach the camera to my TV. This recorder is very easy to use and the HD quality is perfect. You can downgrade the quality to SD for normal DVD playback and that quality isn't as good, obviously, but still very satisfactory. I would recommend this to anyone.
