I have only had this camera about 3 or 4 weeks but already have taken great pictures with it. Still learning. Macro flower pictures were beautiful. Used it for my grandchildrens' baseball playoff games this week and the camera caught the flight of the ball being pitched. Simply Amazing! BTW We're #1 as is this camera.

This camera fills the gap between simple compact cameras for taking snapshots and more expensive digital SLR cameras. My favorite thing about the FZ28 is its flexibility. The Intelligent Auto mode takes great pictures if you just want to take a few snapshots, and the manual controls (Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority, and Manual modes) give you sufficient control to explore exposure, depth of field, working with raw files, etc. Also, the 18x zoom lens has a wide range of focal lengths (27-486mm, 35mm equivalent), which allows you to explore different shooting scenarios.

This is our first mid-grade camera. We are VERY impressed with the quality. We love the 18x zoom. it is great to be able to take such great pics from a distance. The only downside is that I haven't figured out how to take motion pictures. Typically if there is something moving in the photo, it shows up blurry. I"m sure there has to be a setting somewhere that I haven't found to get rid of that.

I am ecstatic about this camera. I have wanted something a "little more serious" than a simple point-and-shoot for a long time and I couldn't have chosen a better upgrade. It's really easy to use, fun and takes wonderful pictures. The lag time is a little slow, but for non-professional photos it's fine. I highly recommend this camera to all those who want a little more umph in their photos without the complications of a professional camera. I LOVE IT!

Excellent camera. Image stabilization allows hand-held photos with maximum telephoto. Most camera settings easily accessible.

I really miss the flip around LCD of my Canon G and Nikon Coolpix 8800; I've lost several pictures because the FZ28 lacks this feature. Also, the manual is poorly written -- apparently not written by a native English speaker. I have read several sections over 3 or 4 times and still don't understand it.

Great lens; responsive settings. Just wish the zoom wasn't so touchy. Many times it focuses on background when you want foreground and vice versa. In general though, it's a terrific product, well made that does the job.

I can't add much to what's already been said about this camera. I did a lot of research before buying it, and it lives up to the praise without a hitch! I just love it. The superzoom is fabulous, I took some amazing photos of the moon on the first night out with it, and they look AMAZING! Photos turn out gorgeous in print, and I love that you can have the raw format for fine-tuning the image if needed.

My husband used it for a photo shoot for a commercial, and found that the Intelligent Auto setting gave him images that were slightly overexposed (indoor setting) but I have not found that to be a problem shooting outdoors in regular daylight.

This camera, for the money, can't be beat!

While this camera isn't a DSLR, it's a terrific all-around camera. I've found it refreshing to not have to haul around my miscellaneous 35mm lenses. Instead, the 18X optical zoom and 10.1 megapixel quality is wrapped up in a nice, compact package. It's smaller than a DSLR too but it feels pretty good in my hands and I use the viewfinder instead of the LCD display.

Image quality is terrific and there's limited noise in lower light situations. I just returned from a trip to Miami where I shot a lot. The battery life was more than adequate and I was very pleased with the results.

I highly recommend this super zoom, especially with pricing under $300.

Not impressed. I purchased one because of the positive reviews on most digital camera review sites, and on [...] The camera is nice to look at and comfortable to use; but the picture quality and auto-focus is weak, regardless of setting.- In any mode the pics are too grainy- If you switch to ISO 100 to mitigate that, then the pics are blurry (kids running etc..)- Compose a shot and the surroundings look hazy. My old powershot G5 (5MP) was far superior to this. Maybe I should have stuck to Canon.The HD video option though is nice (clear video); but the file sizes are huge.

I bought the FZ28 based on reviews at DP Review and elsewhere. The IQ on this Panasonic is great for the price range and it is a very solid and well-built camera. The only improvement I can recommend is a swiveling LCD.

This is a great camera for someone who wants more than a point and click, but is intimidated by the many options of manual operation (like me). Takes great pictures with the auto settings, and you can also play around with the aperture and other settings if you're wanting to learn more about them. One con is that there is no connection, that I can see, for an external flash, which is no problem for a casual user, but might be a problem for more pro photographers. Overall, I love this camera, I was never much into pictures but having this camera makes me WANT to take more pictures. Definitely recommend.

I have 5 ultra-zoom cameras. I primarily use my cameras to photograph birds. In terms of image quality, the Panasonic FZ28 and the Panasonic FZ18 are far better than my Nikon P90, the Olympus 590UZ and the Kodak Z980. The Nikon works poorly on cloudy days and doesn't have the same quality image stabilization (they call it vibration reduction) as the Panasonics. The Kodak camera is difficult to use if the photography you are doing requires changing settings quickly. The Olympus produces soft images and doesn't perform well on cloudy days. My next camera will probably be a Panasonic.

My husband is a semi-pro Photographer and he bought me this camera because I allways complain about not been able to use his camera because of weight and complexity. At first I found this camera big for what I really wanted but I had to take it to a trip to China and the quality of pictures and the easy to use interfase really worth extra love for my husband. Needed a point and shoot to go with my bigger Canon 1D series gear. Wanted something with decent zoom and high quality glass.

This camera is great as it provides a relatively inexpensive setup to carry with me on cross country ATV rides. The gig gear works fine, if a given destination is in order, but this works fine for the unknown. So far it has withstood two ATV trips, that the bigger glass was shaken apart on. It is still working and capture those shots that otherwise would have been missed.

Incredible value for the modest cost! At first glance proprietary battery seems a problem, but long life between charges makes this a plus- and aftermarket batteries available much more reasonably priced than brand name. Firmware may need work, mine has intermittent "system error" that locks it up. MUST use 46 mm filter to protect exposed lens! Zoom lever should be on back, awkward on front. Red-eye reduction pre-flash screws up animal head shots: hard to get a wide-eyed shot. If there is a way to turn this off, I haven't yet found it. Menu very complex, will take time to master. But overall an amazing camera and value!

worth every penny b/c you get so much for your money. bigger than i expected b/c my last camera was one of those tiny ones you can fit in your purse, but it's still so lightweight, i don't mind. the pix are fabulous, the controls are easy to use -- i'm still having fun playing around with everything, so i use the auto feature a lot. but the grainy option produced some really beautiful shots. haven't tried at a sports event, yet, but looking forward to seeing what i get. loads in a snap to my apple (works seamlessly with iphoto). i'm a total fan.

This camera has a lot of useful features and great battery life. Photos are excellent. Auto focus hunts a little at extended zoom in low light conditions although switching to manual focus solved the problem.

I use my camera mainly for my 3 year old son so I have to be quick. It seems that there is no automatic flash. The operating manual is vague and leaves too much room for interpretation. Although I feel that I have an above average understanding of new technologies, The Panasonic company left me in the dark with a lot of unexplained abbreviations, and grey areas. After tinkering with the camera I have figured out the basic operations, but by time I figure out all the little nuances, it may be time to upgrade again

This camera holds up to those expensive DSLR's and doesn't stop putting out great photos. Excellent zoom. Excellent color. RAW mode. Manula control. The list goes on.

Would like to see GPS tagging in a future upgrade. If ever I need a replacement, I will certainly look into this line before spending WAY too much on a Nikon or Canon.

Pros: I purchased this camera to hold me over until the "Canon SX1 IS" is available in the United States. The high resolution, 18x zoom, the fully automatic mode as well as the manual overide, the high ratings it was receiving at the time, and the low price all made the Lumix camera very attractive to me. In addition to that, what made this the camera of my choice at this time was the available accessories: SLIDE COPIER FOR PANASONIC LUMIX DMC-FZ18 FZ28 W/ TUBE; Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ18 & DMC-FZ28 Digital Camera HD² Professional Digital Accessory Kit; Lenmar DLP006 Lithium-ion Digital Camera/Camcorder Battery Equivelent to the Panasonic CGR-S006A Battery.

I haven't had this camera for very long, thus I really can't speak for the quality of photos or vids. So far I don't have a problem with the pics it takes. I am still studying the instructions so I can use the full features this camera has to offer.

Cons: The one thing that really disappoints me in this camera is the proprietary battery pack. If I am on the road and my battery goes dead, I am up a creak. Poor choice on Panasonic's part to use a proprietary battery pack. I almost didn't buy the camera for that very reason but I figure I won't be using it long since the "Canon SX1 IS" is expected in the United States perhaps as early as this Spring. Also, I don't like the fixed LCD display. I miss the swing out and pivoting LCD that I've gotten used to on my Canon Powershot S2 IS. It both protects the LCD when not in use and allows pictures to be taken from angles otherwise not possible, or diffucult at best.

Although I haven't yet taken the camera in the field or used it extensively, I have shot several hundred exposures under varied conditions. The camera has performed flawlessly. I have used super zooms from Canon and Olympus, and I'm especially impressed by the intuitive controls and ease of use. The Leica lens also is exceptional.

I love this camera. My wife likes that she can toss it in her purse. I like that it has enough features to keep me occupied. I took some nice photos out of the box with the camera in automatic mode. But it was not as intuitive to operate as you might think. For example, even though I did everything right, I still got blurry photos occasionally at first. I needed to read the instruction booklet to figure out what I was doing wrong. It turned out that there was a better setting I could have used. Since reading the booklet, everything has been fine. I especially enjoy how well this camera performs in low light. I took photos of my family in my (finished) basement near our Christmas tree, and every one turned out perfectly: I even could see the lights on my tree at the same time as I saw my family members' faces. And guys, the soft skin feature on portrait setting will definitely give you points with your lady! As one more big bonus, this camera takes awesome film footage. I got 8 minutes of high-quality digital film of my daughter in a Christmas play. I honestly could not have done better with my digital video camera. Definitely be sure to buy an extra battery. It only takes two hours to charge the battery, and it lasts a really long time. But it is much simpler to switch out one while charging the other. Bottom line: high quality photos, the best zoom on the market, and awesome video. There's really nothing else I could ask for.

I love this camera. It takes great pictures outside. I have taken pictures of Christmas lights and they have come out great. It does 32.1 X Optical Zoom at 3 megapixels - a very nice bonus. The shutter can left open for as long a 60 seconds for some great tripod shots in very low light. This allows for some neat special effects like light painting. Learning all the features as you learn about photography is fun to me. But the iA (Intelligent Auto) makes quicky pics easy and fast. Its hard to take a bad picture with this camera. The HD video is great to have too. What a workhorse.

I needed to complement my digital SLR with a light versatile snapshooter. It's very useful, very light, flexible and gets good results. You can get a quick shot, at wide to telephoto very quickly, without having to get a heavy SLR out, change lenses etc. My wife has a FZ20, and I have been consistently impressed with her results. I can enlarge her 4 MP images to 11x14 regularly, and once in a while go larger. The reason I did not rate the camera a 5, is that several features which are advertized are not very useful.
I got caught by some exciting features advertized for the FZ28, which are not nearly as good as imagined.
The burst mode at 13 shots per second, is at 3 MP (which I realized), but it is also at standard resolution, not high. So even though I have not tried that, I expect just so-so results.
The other feature which I was curious about, is that by reducing resolution, the zoom was increased. I did not exactly know how it worked, but now that I know, it's not impressive, and appears to be just a hype feature, and not real. It appears that this 'super' zoom feature just uses part of the sensor, causing apparent magnification, and is similar to digital zoom in that you really don't get anything extra.
But overall, I am pretty happy with this purchase.

It is very good at taking movies. They look great on my large screen. I got a fast 16G card and feel like I have a video camera. It is light weight. I believe it will meet my needs for close ups. It did a good job on outdoor holiday lights.

I LOVE THIS CAMERA. I HAVE A CANON REBEL XTI AND THIS IS AS GOOD IF NOT BETTER. THE ZOOM IS MUCH BETTER THAN THE CANON, AND PICTURE QUALITY AS GOOD.

Great images are available with the fine lens in this compact lightweight mega-zoom. The controls have been easy to run through, and the auto modes have returned good results also. The battery lasts forever, it seems. I have no complaints. Excellent size for traveling without lugging SLR lenses and such. Have not noticed shutter lag issues or anything. A sweet camera

I loved my sister's Lumix DMC-FZ8 and had to find one just like it. This is a later model, which has a better optical zoom and lets you record video in HD. I tried another brand first (Kodak Easyshare, which I returned the next day) with same features, but the sound for the video was horrible. The DMC-FZ28 works great. I suggest getting at least a 4GB SDHC memory card because recording in HD takes a lot of memory and I filled up a 2GB card with about 6 short videos and about 45 pictures. I haven't had enough time to play with all the settings (which are numerous and a little confusing), but the IA setting seems to do well in most situations.

Incredible capability and good quality pics. Has just enough learning curve to make it interesting and fun to have. It has resparked my interest in photography with things like a 60 second max shutter opening for some really creative pics.

The camera has many abilities that I have yet to use.
It takes excellent stage pictures and long distance shots. It takes beautiful close-ups. I even use it to take pics on my computer monitor.

I would recommend this camera to anyone who is an avid photographer.

The optical zoom extends to 32.1x for 3 mp resolution,which is just out of the world. Image stabilisation is good. Battery life is great. Size is moderate. I like the picture quality. Please go for PANASONIC rather than CANON OR SONY for zoom digital cameras.

Excellent bang for the buck. Next best thing to a SLR at half the price. Great point and shoot camera. HD video is outstanding! Great to have built in viewfinder for shooting outside in the sun. Built in flash is nice too.

I spent a lot of time researching various digital cameras and decided on the FZ18 this summer, but then held off until the FZ28 was released, and I am very glad that I did. Photography of my family and travel experiences is one of my passions, and the FZ28 provides superior quality with versatility and ease of use. It is less bulky than an SLR, and truly not inconvenient for casual, everyday use. I've had the camera for about a month and love everything about it.

The leica lens makes it the best super-zoom out so far. There is very little negative I can say about it and the rumors about a small EVF are way exaggerated. I wear glasses and it works just fine. The LCD gains up well in dim light and also shows fairly well in sunlight, although I prefer the EVF outdoors. It's my carry everywhere but ready for anything camera.
