Comments about Panasonic TH-42PZ800U 42-inch Viera 1080p Plasma HDTV:

I've had this T.V. for about 2 weeks and have already logged over 60 hours on it. To help speed up the break in period (100 to 200 hours), I've been playing several concert videos and movies that are native 16:9 at night when I'm in bed. I also run the sound through the t.v. at night to help break in the speakers. I have a 5.1 sound system, but it makes sense to help break in the speakers as well.I've played Madden 09, COD 4 and Halo 3 on the x-box 360 (component setup, I have the 20 gig 360 - pre- HDMI model). I purchased the PS3 to play blue ray discs. For games, I first started using the game function (the screen is brighter), but I've noticed as the t.v. breaks in, it looks better using the custom settings. Overall, I've been using the custom setting since it is a little brighter than the THX setting. I use the color scheme from the THX setting to help determine color accuracy on the custom settings. The only knock against the t.v. is that you would have to have hire a certified calibration technician to fully calibrate the t.v. since the menu doesn't give the consumer complete control of the colors and greyscale. But the t.v. looks excellent as-is. I imagine that the t.v. may look better after it's fully calibrated, but I wonder if the difference will be dramatic enough to warrant the cost.Several of my friends have come over to watch football games on Direct T.V. HD NFL Ticket, movies and play video games and they all come away totally impressed by how well everything looked.T.V. speakers are good. I have no complaints, but again, I mainly use my 5.1 sound system (yamaha receiver and paradigm speakers). For [$] (the price I paid), I have no complaints. I knew going into it that I didn't have complete control over the color scheme and I wanted the THX setting after reading several magazine reviews of the 50 inch version.[...]

I use this tv for blu-ray movie watching and video game playing. Without a shadow of a doubt, worth every dollar. Simple hook-up, set-up, and most impressive picture on the market.

Comments about Panasonic TH-42PZ800U 42-inch Viera 1080p Plasma HDTV:

A little more expensive than other 42" plasmas, but worlds apart. Uses a Matsushita manufactured panel, which is the same company that is used by the Pioneer Kuro, so the picture quality is incredible.
