7-Channel Equal Power
7-Channel Equal Power is a feature used in various Denon amplifiers to connect 7 speakers independently so that separate power amps connected via pre-outs are not required. It allows you to connect the second 'surround back' speaker to complement the surround back speaker for 6.1, straight off the main amplifier without adding a power amplifier to support 7.1 surround formats. Amplifiers with 7-Channel Equal Power have built-in separate internal amplifiers to power each channel independently, thus allowing you to enjoy the same high power output capability per channel, giving a balanced and truly high-impact surround-sound environment.

7-Channel Stereo
Denon's 7-Channel Stereo mode enables top quality normal two channel stereo output from the surround speakers to provide a unique 7 channel stereo option. This mode can be fully utilized from any high quality stereo source via CD, tape, FM-radio or video recorder for dynamic 7-channel output. The 7-channel stereo is available if you have a surround back right speaker connected as well as the surround back left speaker used in 6.1, otherwise you can still experience multi-channel stereo output using a 5-channel-stereo or 6-channel-stereo configuration.

8-Channel Input
These input jacks are for inputting multi-channel audio signals in high definition MUSE 3-1 format, multi-channel audio signals from an MPEG multi-channel decoder, SACD and DVD-Audio. The 8 channels are the Front left, Front right, Center, Surround left, Surround right, Surround Back Left, Surround Back Right and the Subwoofer. These connections are made by using 8 standard phono (RCA's) cables. The inputs are on the amplifier and by selecting 'Ext in' you can receive analog audio signals via a source such as a DVD player. Denon DVD players can be connected via the 6 phono cables to a Denon amplifier's 6-CH or 8-CH EXT inputs to allow for SACD or DVD-Audio transfer. This can also be used as an alternative to IEEE1394-output (Digital Audio) FireWire connection or the DENON LINK connection.

Advanced AL24 Processing
The acclaimed Advanced AL24 DSP processing improves the fidelity of high resolution stereo PCM sources such as CD and DVD (up to 192kHz sampling frequencies). Through sophisticated DSP processing algorithms, it improves low level detail and enhances fidelity by up-sampling and adaptive filtering techniques. Advanced AL24 also provides increased dynamic range and spatial information, bringing out all the nuances with optimum clarity and natural fidelity. For additional information, visit the Denon Tech Showcase.

Audyssey MultEQ XT
The Audyssey MultEQ XT provides advanced room correction and calibration technology. During the Auto Set-Up mode, MultEQ XT automatically determines how many loudspeakers are connected, whether they are connected in phase and whether they are satellites or subwoofers. After processing, it then analyzes and calibrates speaker level, size, and distance. MultEQ XT detects the proper crossover point and determines correct frequency response for up to eight listener positions simultaneously. Denon's implementation of MultEQ XT uses multiple Texas Instruments' Aureus DSP processors with high-end digital-to-analog converters. Both the Room EQ and Auto Set-Up features can be disabled if required. For additional information, visit the Denon Tech Showcase.

Cinema Equalizer
The sound from movie sources recorded in Dolby Digital, dts, or other formats emphasizes high-frequency range due to a theater`s front speakers being placed behind the movie screen. If this sound is reproduced in the home theater without correction, the high-frequency range can be too strong. Denon amplifiers feature a Cinema Equalizer to correct these high-frequency components so that the sound is clearer and easier to listen to.

Directional Correlation De-interlacing (DCDi)
DCDi is a specialized video processing developed by Faroudja that involves advanced algorithms to remove the jagged edges that appear when standard interlaced video is viewed on progressive scan displays. DCDi converts standard interlaced signals into progressive scan signals in order to eliminate the stair casing effect that conventional up-converters can introduce to diagonal edges.

Comments about Denon AVR-4308CI 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver with Wi-Fi:

The 4308CI repalces my 8 year old Denon 3801 in my home theater 7.1 set-up.

This device is amazing. The NET Radio and HD-Radio exceed expectations. The sound quality is outstanding. The Wi-Fi set up is simple ... strangely the simplest part of setting up this monster receiver.

The rest of the set up through the difficult User interface is horrendous. I've been working at it nearly 2 weeks and still have a way to go. The results are worth the effort.

The Audyssey MultiEQ-XT is tricky to get right but again the results are worth it. It is like having a new hearing. The clarity of the sound has to be experienced.

A great short cut to set up is using the web browser interface to the device .. set up the wi-fi ... go to your PC and browse to the receiver's IP address.. and away you go.

You will not be dissappointed in the Audio or Video performance of this device and Onecall's price is fantastic.

Comments about Denon AVR-4308CI 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver with Wi-Fi:

I had an aging Yamaha receiver which served me well for 12 years. I felt that with all the tech advances in the AV world it is the time to change it out. Beside, I liked the lossless audio codecs that they have now for the blue ray disc. It is a well build product and it is pretty easy to operate once it is all setup. The manual is awful and it is very confusing. The main remote is also confusing to operate. The second remote is a life saver as it is pretty straight forward in its buttons layout. The on-screen menu is not very intuitive for the beginners. Once I understood the software tree structure as outlined in the manual the setup was do able. Believe me I have to actually do a planned layout on a piece of paper for the devices that I need to connect and then just follow it. I do not know how anyone without a good understanding of the connectivity could do it without assistance. This is also wifi ready and DLNA compliant and since I am running window 7 on my PC, the LAN connectivity was a breeze. I would highly recommend that you would take the auto setup option to assign the IP address. Once it was done it showed up on my PC under network devices. If you have a server connected to your network it will be very easy to play all your audio files. This is a really desired feature for me. You can do it wired/wirelessly on this receiver. Once everything is done you will be rewarded with an incredible sound. I have the blue ray Oppo player which can stream the uncompressed PCM to this receiver and the sound was so enveloping. I also tried the direct mode for playing my CD/SACD/DVD-A and the sound was pure and clean. I heard very nuance on my 180 gram LP from checky record. The sound was so clean (very good mid-range) that I could hear the plucking of the strings. Overall it is a very good receiver for the price that I paid for it.

Lot's of Clean power. Great value at discounted price. Menu is OK, remote control is arduous. Remote is functional, but far from intuitive. Also, only has basic controls for devices.

Only problems playing 24-bit FLAC from Beatles USB stick. Plays, but get static, need to troubleshoot issue more. Image viewer is VERY slow.

This is built in Japan and NOT China, might be one of the last affordable receivers that is not made in China. I avoid anything I can that is made in China...China=cheap, horrible, iffy, nasty, awful.

This is a very good receiver for home theater and music listening. I set mine up for 5.1 in my living room and sent the extra set of channels out to my deck so i could listen to it while in the hot tub. This receiver supply's plenty of very clean power even at high volumes. The only drawback is that the setup remote is not very intuitive however the second remote that most people will use day to day is very straight foward.

Comments about Denon AVR-4308CI 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver with Wi-Fi:

Lengthy hook-up and setup process, but the end result is worth the initial effort. The ability to assign inputs comes in very handy, and the number of features is staggering. A very nice unit with just about everything you could ask for. The automatic speaker balancing is an outstanding feature that results in excellent surround sound with minimal effort. The remote, on the other hand, is pretty pathetic. The screen isn't visible in anything above dim lighting, so the main remote is best left in a drawer. The secondary remote is OK, but is missing some of the functions of the main remote. All in all, an excellent unit if you're willing to spend some time settng it up.

Comments about Denon AVR-4308CI 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver with Wi-Fi:

I bought this to complement a Denon DVD3800, and the two are a perfect match. My previous power was a Denon AVP8000 with a Sunfire amp. The Denon 4808 sounds cleaner and provides better imaging to the other unit. Plus the Audyssey calibration was a snap to execute and produced excellent results. My speakers have never sounded so good, and the surround imaging is fantastic. Based on some reviews, I was worried that the AVR-4808ci would be challenging to setup—not so; it was quite easy.

I bought the optional iPod dock, and it works like a charm.

The networking capabilities and way it discovered my wireless network (and connected to Denon's site and downloaded/installed the latest updates) was amazing.

My only quibble is the remote control. As many have said, the remotes that come with the unit—while adequate—just aren't up to par for a unit of this caliber. The good news is that my old remote works fine with the new unit. The other quibble is the iPod dock controls: no GUI, just a DOS-like thing. Sad.

I've already recommended this unit to a friend (who also purchased it and is enjoying it). Definitely a great piece of gear.

I use this for listening to music over the computer. The wi fi is limited and if you want to listen to rhapsody you have to buy a $100 software upgrade package. I won't even discuss the instructions on setting this thing up and running on a network. Simple things like adjusting the bass or treble require going into menus, needs to be more user friendly and simpler. I called denon with a question and they said that they would call back within 48 hours, never did, called again waited 22 minutes and same reply will get back to me.

Comments about Denon AVR-4308CI 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver with Wi-Fi:

I am using this unit to provide audio to two rooms. I upgraded from a Yamaha 5.1 receiver and enjoy the added features such as the capability to connect wireless to the Internet and listen to any on-line station I desire. I also enjoy the improved sound quality. That says a lot coming from an avid Yamaha customer. While the set up process is typical, configuring the system with its multiple fucntions is extremely time consuming and complicated. You need to set aside more than a couple of hours for this task. The owners manual has room for improvement as it is very basic and does not provide complete instructions. You have to guess or perform trial and error on many of the set ups. The main remote is also very complicated. I'm still trying to figure it out.

After you get done hashing through the unclear manual and get the receiver setup, then do yourself a favor and buy or program a Harmony remote control. My Harmony 900 got me back to one remote for all my devices... TV, DVD, Receiver, and TiVo. The small Denon remote provided is fine if you don't mind needing multiple remotes. The large Denon remote is a almost useless except for the setup. With all that said, the receiver is excellent. If you or the receiver get illogical during the setup, my advice is to power off via the small unlit button on the receiver. That forces the receiver to reboot it's brain and clears out the confusion. Great price offered to me via email from OneCall sent me over the edge.

Comments about Denon AVR-4308CI 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver with Wi-Fi:

Do the firmware upgrade first, then do the setup unless you want to do things twice. When initially setting up the box and you and the box are confused (i.e., you have no sound), just press the small unlit on/off button on the receiver, and the receiver will default/reboot/revert inputs and settings back to a logical menu point. If you will think the receiver is broken, that's the sign to reboot it. It's not broken, it's confused with the multiple remote inputs. This receiver requires that you purchase a Harmony remote after you get the receiver setup to achieve complete happiness. You have to add the direction left and direction right commands to the Harmony to get the Internet Radio to work correctly. Also add the tuneup and tunedown commmands to the HD radio, then you don't need the FM Radio at all. HDMI switching works flawlessly. Great receiver, the big remote is only used for the setup, good small remote, but you only need one remote for ALL your AV equipment and lighting, and the Harmony 900 now has RF. I've put 6 remotes away in the drawer and retired my 7500 Pronto remote. Thanks OneCall for [...] the excellent receiver price.

Pros:
multi-room component video output
multi-room (digital/ zone 4) surround sound output
great power/ features
i/p scaling is great, and is selectable per input
lots of configuration options

Cons:
needs another component video input
no multi-room/zone hdmi output
needs zone2 surround sound audio output
no built in ir routing
remote is akward

No one offers a reciever with multi-room/zone hdmi outputs and very few offer multi-zone component video outputs. Built-in ir-routing is only available on high end multi-romm/zone systems and very few matrix switches, so it really can't be expected on this unit. This is the most affordable and complete multi-zone reciever built today.

Comments about Denon AVR-4308CI 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver with Wi-Fi:

The installation of the AVR-4308 went well but there were several issues I would like to address.

The Audyssey MultEQ XT automated room equalizer did not accurately set up distances and speakers for my room. This was corrected by manual speaker setup with a sound meter. Also it identified a reverse polarity on the main L/R speakers (which were setup fine). The manual said this often happens.

The wireless network setup without any glitches. The first thing I used the network connection for was downloading the latest firmware. Give yourself some time for this. Mine took about 75min. with a 10MB/s internet connection. My biggest complaint about the Denon network interface is that it does not read the files from my iTunes. It interfaces with window media player. I found myself not even using the Denon for network radio and more drawn to the Pandora Internet Radio available on the Samsung BDP3600. The interface is much more user friendly.

The Denon unit comes with two remote controls. One for the main room with a LCD display and the other for the second room with only buttons. I find the main remotes LCD display to be useless. It's very hard to read in a sun lit room and not very intuitive to use. Instead, I prefer to use the second room remote with nicely sized and spaced buttons.

Make sure you have plenty of ventilation for your receiver. With all that power, the Denon tends to kick off plenty of heat.

I usually enjoy reading the manuals of the new equipment that I purchase, ensuring proper use of all the it's features. However, I have met my match with the Denon AVR-4308. The endless list of options and settings are mind numbing.

Overall I am very pleased with the performance of the Denon AVR-4308. Once setup and balanced for my 20'x15' room it sounds exquisite, with so much power that you need to send the kids and wife away just to enjoy it at full reference levels.

I love the multiple HDMI inputs which makes my wife happy with the corresponding reduction in cords. Being able to run only one HDMI cable to my plasma TV makes for a nice clean appearance. Plenty of power in this system. My son is in high school and all his friends are truly impressed by amount of decibles it is capable of putting out. I definately recommend setting up the wifi networking first to program the component labels. The only draw back is the main remote is worthless. I am going to get a tablet remote.

Comments about Denon AVR-4308CI 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver with Wi-Fi:

I've read alot of reviews on this unit, the negitive comments of the manual was the only one I realy agree with. I realy don't understand the comments concerning the remote sure it's not the best but come on. The sound from the receiver is great and got a whole lot better when I down loaded the feature upgrade, and now it's the best. Look, just read the positive reviews they say it all, don't bother with the nit picking negitves.

Comments about Denon AVR-4308CI 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver with Wi-Fi:

Once you learn how to use the remote you can choose sources and zones and outputs and just do about any combination you can think of. I have been trying new ideas for weeks and I still have not used all the features available to me. You will love the sound and the 1080p video and the GUI but you must study the manual or it will just sit there and look at you.

Great Amp - Difficult to use

Bottom Line:

Comments about Denon AVR-4308CI 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver with Wi-Fi:

I love the sound and the features. However, the interface is so complex, that many people will be overwhelmed trying to set it up and use it. I am a computer engineer, and have been stumped for hours trying to figure out why certain features “suddenly” stop working. Tip – do NOT accidently hit the center of the “soft” buttons on the main remote. That button switches the amp into “direct” mode, which disables display on your TV. I found this out the hard way. I was watching a movie and hit the buttons so they would light up and I could see them... and the image on the TV “suddenly” disappeared!!!

I use the Net/USB feature extensively to stream CD’s and play Internet radio. Unfortunately the interface and navigation screens for this are also very cumbersome. To switch between a WMP playlist and an internet radio station, for example, requires probably a half-dozen clicks through the menu. I would love to see an upgrade that allows me to customize this, and design my own screen (web page) with exactly the combination of internet radio stations, WMP playlists or other Net/USB functions that I want, all on the same page.

In spite of the interface problems, I really enjoy it. I rate the hardware a 5 and the interface a 1, thus my score of 3 stars. I highly recommend it to technical experts. Anyone else will be overwhelmed.

Comments about Denon AVR-4308CI 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver with Wi-Fi:

The 3808ci is probably a better value, especially if you don't need wi-fi (I don't) or HD radio ( I live in Houston and try to stay away from Houston radio as much as possible :) ). Sounds great, easy firmware update, excellent connectivity. Remote is not great and there is a learning curve on the menus

Comments about Denon AVR-4308CI 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver with Wi-Fi:

I have been extremely happy with this purchase. The amount of options makes this a very flexible device; many of the features I may never use.

There have been some minor issues: When it comes on it sometimes does not sync up properly with my (older) HDTV. Changing sources and back resolves it. Navigating my music library is a challenge as the interface does not seem to perform consistently.

Fortunately, this device regularly receives updates from Denon which has make it better over just the four months I have owned the device.

Comments about Denon AVR-4308CI 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver with Wi-Fi:

i could easily see this being my main receiver for the next ten years. it does everything - plenty of hdmi inputs, hd radio, xm radio ready, internet radio (very important to me), wireless, upscaling to 1080 from all video sources, audiophile performance and sound.
the biggest glaring mistake is the main remote control. it is absolutely useless. i tried for four hours to get it to work my whole system and it just wont work. finally broke down and just got the logitech harmony one remote and everything works fine. the main remote is so useless i wouldn't know where to begin and it would be too difficult to explain anyway. all that said, this is an excellent receiver that does everything and you won't be disappointed.
