Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
We like the remote. It comes closer to being universal than seemed claimed in the reviews I read. I prefer it to the Comcast remote in most instances. We run a cable system and Playstation (game/bluray)with HDMI connectivity. The sound reproduction is extremely clear and powerful for our small room. Running a single HDMI connection to our Panasonic HDTV and using the Onkyo as the center of the system's control is a dream; it transfers video superbly. The only problem I had installing it was that the receiver setup for speaker locations couldn't ping one of the surround speakers though that speaker works as it should in all applications.I read reviews before I bought this and I was not disappointed. What a great receiver for [$]bought at One Call!!
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
Works great on all blue ray's, cd's, dvd's and X-Box. Made a big improvement to my B&W speakers. Owned since Dec. 08, no problems and always look forward to turning it on.
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
I enjoy the ability to hear dialog that is at low audio levels, even when the volume is not cranked up. When I do turn it up, the sound is very clean on TV, CDs and DVDs.
It doesn't run nearly as hot as the Panasonic receiver I replaced, which had more power output by rating but didn't sound as good as this unit.
The automated set-up is one of the best features. Just launch the program, place the microphone and follow the instructions. I am generally not a big fan of automation, but in this case it made the set-up quick and easy, and it worked great.

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
I bought the Onkyo after comparing it to several comparable products (Denon, Yamaha, etc.). This is my first receiver and speaker system. I was impressed by the easy set up and the four (yes count them 4) HDMI inputs. I set the whole system up in less than an hour. I paired it with DefTech 60.6 5.1 speakers and cannot be happier. As many reviewers have noted, the unit gets hot. I have it in an enclosed cabinet, but have removed the back for better air flow and it keeps it at a manageable level. From what I have read they all get hot, but Onkyo does not have an internal fan. This does not seem to be a problem. I read lots of reviews on the product, and would highly recommend it to anyone.[...]
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
The set-up is unbelievably easy, as is the remote, ... once you get used to it. The only complaint I have is my cable remote doesn't have a single code to control the receiver. One code will turn it on but not off, another will do the opposite, but none of the codes will do both. Is that the cable's flaw or the receiver's? Other than that, I love it. Great piece of equipment!

I ran a Hdmi cable to my tv from my AV closet which is were I thought this receiver would come in handy. Well it did for a few days, then I would get snow on my Tv when changing channels from HD to SD. After contacting Okyo (not an easy task) they told me the switch in the unit was defective. The receiver was easy to setup and sounded great when it worked. I will not buy another Onkyo product due to poor customer service. I will definitely order from OnceCall again [...]

This is My Third Onkyo Receiver to get set for HDTV. Previous Two are still going strong. This receiver is exceptional for its quality of Sound and Price. Easy to Hook-up too. The Auto Sound Setup is great. It set the sound up in no time to the clarity I hadn't experienced before. Highly Recommended.
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
I got this mostly for home theater use with HDMI. Must read manual carefully, surround speaker setup not entirely logical. But once sorted out, very nice. Haven't really pushed it. Zone 2 speaker controls take a little getting used to. Overall, great value. I would rate this about 4.7 of 5 stars.[...] Excellent and outstanding !
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
This unit allows you to hook up all your HDMI devices, and use all their functions - including sound. Some of the units at this price point only send the video over HDMI, requiring you to use RCA cables or some other connection to bring sound into the receiver.
And the remote was really easy to program, so I can use just that remote for "almost" everything, including the cable DVR functions. (I say "almost" because I've only just set it up, and haven't figured out what all the buttons do yet. It might just completely replace all my other remotes.)
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
Set up and performance both surpassed expectations. Turned down the sub a bit after auto calibration...others have also mentioned this. Haven't seen anything like this feature set for the money. Get it!
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
I'm using the Onkyo 606 receiver to power 5 Mirage speakers and a Klipsch self powered subwooffer. I must say the subwooffer is way more speaker than I need. I have to turn it way down to keep from rattling the windows. With very little power I can have great sound and the Onkyo really works well with Blueray DVD's that provide theater sound. The pass thru HDMI is great. I spent a little more than I planned but its well worth the results I achieved.
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
This receiver is so much for the money invested.Reserched receivers for my home theater and narrowed it down to either the yamaha or the onkyo. After reading so many reveiws on line and talking to someone at work who just puchased the onkyo 606 I decided to take the plung and was not dissapointed. To many functions to list.Well worth the [$] invested.

Used it for my home theater system. Sounds awesome with a pair of bookshelf speakers + my old 5.1 speakers from my previous sound system. Reviews said its video up-conversion sucked, but I have no use for that feature.

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
I bought this to replace my ten-year-old receiver. It works pretty well, so far at least, but I noticed a problem: the receiver can theoretically convert old composite video (the single yellow RCA jack style, which all my old equipment had) to HDMI. That worked perfectly well to hook up my old DVD player temporarily, but as soon as I plugged in an HDMI cable to that source, the receiver ceased being able to convert composite video, even if the HDMI cable was removed, and even when the HDMI port was assigned to a different source. (This was an issue because the PlayStation 3 I was using as a DVD player turned out to be defective, and I had to switch back to my old DVD player.) In the long term, this doesn't matter, because I doubt I'll ever need to switch back to composite again (and in any case I discovered that my old DVD player has component out as well, which still works) but watch out if you're buying this model for mixed use in the long term.
By the way: if you have ever hooked up an old SD receiver before, this one will be just as easy as any you've dealt with. No mysterious stuff or weird procedures -- it Just Works.
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
Hooked it up with a new HDTV and I am amazed at how it has changed the television experience! I haven't even watched a movie yet, but even the TV programs sound good. Watched a Bruce Springsteen concert one night and really cranked it up -- which was awesome until the commercials came on ...
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
I really didn't think my old Kenwood was that bad of a receiver, until I hooked this into my Boston Acoustics set-up. WOW! Clean, clear, and lot's of low end. Easy to set-up, and in less than 30 minutes, your done. The on screen menu for set-up is nice, and the remote is almost as advanced as my all in one learning remote. Onkyo has packed more into this than anything else on the market at this price point. Don't hesitate, get it now. OneCall.com had the best deal[...].
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
I come from a system where I would feed my sources through an equalizer prior to amplification. Setting this system up was just a pleasure, using the included microphone and the on-board setup, I now have clean clear sound in my home theater. It easily carries a 340 square feet room. Very well defined sound both at low volume as well as high. I am impressed by the control the SR606 is showing regardless of the type of sound it portraits -- it is a winner!
PS. I love the Bi-Amp feature - does wonders for the low - range frequencies!

Works very well. Love the number of HDMI inputs. Sound is great....Setup was ok - I always hat doing it. But it all worked the first time. I don't understand all of the options so will have to play with it. But it works very well. Would definitely recommend.
P.S. Its in a wooden cabinets with lots of room around it. It isn't as hot as I expected from other comments.
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
This was purchased for a home theater setup. I took it from the box, hooked up the speakers and HDMI cables from my components, plugged it in and turned it on. It worked great. After everyone went to bed later, I took out the microphone and plugged it in, allowing it to automatically calibrate the speakers. Nothing has ever been easier. Wonderful sound, and I've noticed no overheating in the couple of weeks that I've had it.

FOR THE OUT OF THE BOX RECEIVER FOR [$] THIS IS THE BEST BUY THAT I'VE FOUND. I HAD TWO BOSE SYSTEMS AND THEY WERE NO MATCH FOR THIS RECEIVER. I HAVE IT PAIRED WITH A PANASONIC PROJECTOR AND THE 7,1 ONKYO SPEAKER PACKAGE AND IT IS FAR FROM YOUR FATHERS TELEVISION. THERE ARE MUCH BETTER UNITS THAT I'VE USED IN HOMES I HAVE BUILT, BUT NOT FOR THIS PRICE. SETUP IS A BIT TRICKY, BUT IF YOU READ THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL IT WORKS FINE. HTMI INPUTS FOR ALL YOUR COMPONENTS DELIVERS GREAT QUALITY, AS DOES THE HDMI OUTPUT TO YOUR TV. IF YOU WANT A MID RANGE QUALITY UNIT FOR YOUR THEATER AT A STARTER PRICE,,,,,THIS IS YOUR MACHINEDAN MARRAZZO

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
My current Onkyo 7.1 home theater system sounds so good that i decided to buy this one as a Christmas presence for me :) I hook this baby to a pair of Sony floor speakers. Oh, the sound is amazing compare to my Sony receiver. It's a big difference!!! Setting up is a breeze since i have an Onkyo system. For first timer, i recommend to read the manual thoroughly. This receiver comes with an earphone (very sensitive. Room has to be absolutely quiet). Hooking it up to a receiver first time, it will help you to calibrate audio automatically. (It is a little bit tricky). For me, power is more than enough. If one wants more pow, then he can go with 707 or even 807 model. This unit gets kind of hot. Keep it in well- ventilatedI fully recommend this one to my friends.[@]

I use this receiver for my home theater. I love the HDMI connections. It drastically reduces the amount of cables needed to connect everything. I was initially concerned that the system only upconverted to 1080i. TV still looks decent and any DVDs I have look awesome, although they may have received some help from the Playstation 3 (I play them on the Blu Ray player which also upconverts. I've only had the receiver a couple of weeks but I'm very happy with it! I bought from OneCall and I recommend them. The receiver came on time and with no problems.

Super clean sound coming from the 606. HDMI pass-through(audio/video), 7.1, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD. The unit does not run as hot as many mentioned. Got a marvelous price from OneCall for this receiver. No humming when turning up the volume high. SAT stb, HD-A2, Oppo-981, are running HDMI to the receiver and only the Xbox 360 is running component to the 606. Everything is going HDMI out to the TV with a single hdmi cable.

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
Fast migration over from my 10 year old Home Theatre system Receiver (5:1). The Receiver is connected to HDTV and a Blue Ray player, both via HDMI. I sill have a Panasonic DVD recorder and VCR (migrating tapes to DVD) connected that is not HDMI. One additional benefit I gain is that now I can connect the DVD recorder via Digital Optical for audio, which my recorder supports, but my old receiver did not. The HDMI equipment is switched (both audio and video 1080P passthru) thru the receiver. It will also upscale all video signals to 1080i (which really helped the picture quality of my older DVD recorder), regardless of the connection, for output via HDMI. The only minor annoyance is that you can't change the name of the attached devices on the remote control, so you need to remember what gear is attached to what port. Excellent sound (room size is approximately 15' x 15'. Receiver does get warmer than my old unit, so I just relocated to the top of the media center shelf where it is open for better cooling. I would consider this rating more of a 4.8, but I did not make it a 5 star since there is always some areas to improve things, right?

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
Confusing set up for Zone 2. Must have TV set up with receiver to see the settings. Speaker wire connections VERY conbersome to manage. The unit could and should be much easier to set up. Zone two should be less complicated.
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
I use the product to run each room in my house...The only thing I'm disappointed about and didn't realize until I actually hooked it up was that there's no digital output for zone 2, which means anything that you have connected with an HDMI cable won't broadcast through any of the speakers in zone 2. I had to re-do the system using analog cables which isn't as neat and easy as the single HDMI cables! Otherwise, a pretty good product and I would recommend to anyone, especially for the price.

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
This receiver runs fine and does everything as advertised. Using mic to auto setup was very quick and easy. Results sounded very good.
Some concerns:
1) Receiver seems to run very hot even when there's no input and volume is turned down. I don't understand why this happens, since technically no current is being used to drive the speakers.
2) Volume knob needs to be turned up to get decent sound. Min is 0 and max is 79. I usually have to turn up to 35-45 to get decent volume, which seems odd to me, since I'm used to other receivers that are more sensitive.
3) HDMI delays keep clicking and resynching everytime source resolution changes. I notice everytime my TIVO HD changes from 480p to 1080i/720p or vice versa, the receiver has to re-negotiate the stream and I lose sound and picture for a few seconds. Kind of annoying, but thats HDCP for you.
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
Just dont forget you have a sound setting for listening to music and it has some super deep base tones, when you watch a movie at 3am...be sure to change it to the dvd sound setting....trust me...your wife and kids will love you! (or kill you if you dont change the setting!! as i type with 1 pinky, and broken fingers due to their outrage!)

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
I wrote earlier that the sound volume was up and down. We pushed the right buttons and, voila, it works! I especially like the Audessy set up.
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
Initial set-up is very easy and calibrating the sound with the include mic is great. It does get complicated with all the choices for sound output/settings if you are in any way technically challenged and just want to get the most realistic surround sound for your home theater.
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
I'm using this receiver in a living room set up and to drive some outdoor speakers by the pool via zone 2. The Onkyo receiver is running a 1080P TV via satelite feed. Excellent unit, no complaints. Zone 2 must be an analog input...but even my Denon in my media room has that quirk, must be an IC chip design. Remote is very easy to use.
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
This is my second Onkyo. Receiver works great. Super easy to set up. Sounds fantastic. Although i had an earlier TX-603X (w/out HDMI)Onkyo and the remote control on that unit is way better but everything else was the same.

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
Does every thing as advertised. It does get HOT so be careful of putting it in an enclosed space. I am intending to add a PC FAN to my cabinet to draw the heat away. It is a great buy for the $'s and includes the latest codecs and 4 HDMI which I am using three of them.
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
This unit has an amazing number of features for the price, and is backed by the always solid Onkyo name. It does run a little hot, just make sure you have decent ventilation (I have mine on an open front shelf with a couple of inches of head room) and you'll be just fine.
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
This is a very good system, and does pretty much everything it was advertised to do. The only downsides seem to be that the aux port is only on the front, it has no phono input, and the "universal remote" is not entirely universal, as it doesn't work with my Toshiba DVD player. These are very minor concerns, since the sound is great, and it is quite versatile.
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
Use with basic home theater.
Being able to assign HDMI Input to all my components is what sold me on buying this model.

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
I have used this receiver for a while. It sounds great and was very easy to setup. I had a Denon home and it was a nightmare to setup. I'm running the HDMI cables via the receiver which is nice, however when switching to the PS3, an error message comes up. When I switch back to the cable box and then again to the PS3 it works, irritating...
Other than this it works really well. I guess I'm not sure if the receiver runs on the 'best' and latest sound formats or not because the display doesn't say much, actually the display looks tacky overall. However, still with the things mentioned above, which I think are minor, the biggest problem I have with this receiver is that it runs very hot. It's supposed to be like this but it still bothers me. If I'm watching TV or listening to music at a very modest volume, why does the Onkyo need to get so darn warm??? My thoughts are that this is depending on the design. If I wouldn't have bought it online, I would have returned it for a Yamaha or Denon.
With all this said, the sound of the receiver is still great. I got new speakers as well (Energy Take Classic) so it's hard to say how much difference the receiver made in comparison to my old Sony. The overall improvement is outstanding though. My guess is that the speakers made the biggest difference cus my old ones were pretty basic.
Also, the Onkyo does have 4 HDMI inputs which was hard to find, this is future safe and will probably be handy even though I'm only using 2 today.
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
I bought this receiver as it carries both the sound and video across the HDMI and I don't have to use a separate cable for sound. It is a bit over kill for the smaller room I have it in, but it is easy to setup and get things going. I am only using it in a 5.1 configuration, but the sound it has produced so far has been awesome.

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
I use it mostly for home theater, but music CD's also. I was most impressed with the sound quality of my standard DVD's and Blu-ray's. If you are on a budget, this is the receiver for you. One complaint-on the display it is hard to read what audio source you are using. Example, You can't tell if it is dts or Dolby digital because the letters are very small. And at average distance sitting away you can't see it. If that is my only complaint, I'll live with it.
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
Centerpiece of entertainment system. Replaced an old Pioneer that was in need of swapping out. HDMI switching works very well; I was nervous about this from info I read on having everything run through the receiver. No complaints. On the "bang for the buck" scale, you would be hard pressed to do better.
Paired with a Harmony remote that runs everything. I can't more strongly recommend getting a Harmony remote to run your system. Makes switching functions a breeze.
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
Kind of slow when swiching HDMI inputs. Takes a few seconds to decode new signals. Once it does, works great.
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
I upgraded to HD so I needed to replace my receiver which is an Onkyo. I moved it to the bedroom and purchased this one for my new HD TV. This receiver is the best for the money. I would be willing to but it up against receivers with twice the price tag. I am using it with Bose surrounds and a Polk center. I also like the fact that I can set it up as 6.1 since this is how my house is wired. Set up was quick and the HDMI switching is the best. I Will up grade to 7.1 soon because it sounds fantastic.
Comments about Onkyo TX-SR606B Black 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:
Very nice receiver for the money. Has 4 HDMI inputs! Latest HD formats to support Blu-Ray are included so you can buy a Blu-Ray without built in audio decoding. Second Onkyo receiver I've purchased. I had a 575X for 8 years and it worked great also. Bought that at OneCall also. Like Onkyo because they keep it simple and seem to use better components than the rest. A nice piece of equipment and 90 watts RMS is great for most homes.
