THX Select2 Plus Certified with New THX Loudness Plus Technology
THX Select2 Plus certification, with THX Loudness Plus, ensures the TX-SR706 is ideally suited for a room where the screen-to-seat viewing distance is approximately 10 to 12 feet, and the room size is approximately 2000 cubic feet. By achieving THX Select2 Plus certification, the TX-SR706 meets the world`s most demanding home theater standards for audio quality and performance, and promises to play at reference volume levels with minimal distortion. Also, a new technology,THX Loudness Plus, improves how you experience movies at lower volume levels. To counteract the loss or distortion of ambient and bass sounds at lower volumes,THX Loudness Plus automatically adjusts the front-to-back speaker levels and frequency balance. This ensures that you can experience all the details of your movies when listening below the reference level.

Processing 1080p Video and High-Def Surround Sound
via HDMI™ With the latest HDMI version and advanced A/V processing capabilities, the TX-SR706 is a powerful control center for all highdefinition media, including Blu-ray Disc and HD broadcasts. You can connect up to four components via HDMI to receive and switch compatible sources and send a 1080p video signal to an HDTV. On the audio side, you have onboard high-definition surround sound codecs—Dolby TrueHD® and DTS-HD™ Master Audio—enabling lossless, studiomaster audio quality from Blu-ray Disc. This version of HDMI also supports Onkyo`s RIHD system control function and provides greater bandwidth to deal with higher resolutions, 36-bit Deep Color™, and high frame rates.

HDMI Video Upscaling (Up to 1080p) with Faroudja
DCDi Cinema (Directional Correlational Deinterlacing) Technology The Faroudja DCDi Cinema video processor takes the TX-SR706 into a higher class when it comes to video processing. Its power lies in its ability to take all video signals, regardless of the input, and upscale them up to 1080p.You simply select the desired resolution via the TX-SR706`s set-up menus to match the resolution of your display. Upscaling takes the video resolution to full HD quality, so it better matches the native resolution of today`s high-definition displays. Faroudja video processors are synonymous with quality, and DCDi Cinema effectively removes video artifacts during the video signal deinterlacing process.

Correcting Room Acoustics and Loudness with Audyssey
MultEQ™ and Audyssey Dynamic EQ™ Audyssey MultEQ is a powerful built-in solution for countering distortion in dedicated home theaters. This technology detects speakers, and then sets levels, delays and crossovers, as well as measuring room acoustics. Using the TX-SR706`s set-up menu, it takes up to six measurements around the listening area and uses high-resolution equalization filters for satellites and the subwoofer. MultEQ covers both the frequency response and the time domain (where most of the problems lie) across the entire listening area. The results are immediately obvious—a clear, well-balanced and natural sound. After calibration, Audyssey Dynamic EQ solves the problem of deteriorating sound quality at lower volumes. Dynamic EQ selects the best possible frequency response and surround levels moment-by-moment, resulting in an ideal listening experience at any volume level.

Push-Pull Amplification Design with Three-Stage Inverted Darlington Circuitry
The TX-SR706`s push-pull amplification design uses different transistors on each channel to separately amplify the positive and negative halves of the waveform. Meanwhile, three-stage inverted Darlington circuitry helps reduce distortion at the output stage. The whole design works to realize a highly efficient drive capability. RIHD (Remote Interactive over HDMI) for System Control. The TX-SR706 offers integrated system control with selected HDMI-compatible high-definition displays, DVD and hard disk recorders, and Blu-ray Disc players. With one remote control, you can control several functions, including Standby,Volume Command, and Direct
Change. RIHD lets you seamlessly integrate the TX-SR706 with other leading brand-name devices, including those with Panasonic VIERA Link and Toshiba CE-Link capability, and selected Sharp displays.
*Compatibility depends on respective model.
*Panasonic VIERA Link is the new name for EZ Sync.

Two High-Quality Texas Instruments Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Chips
The TX-SR706 assigns two Texas Instruments (Aureus™) DSP chips to handle the greater processing requirements of Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, Audyssey MultEQ, and post-processing.

Cirrus Logic Digital-to-Analog Converters (DACs) for Highly Precise Audio
You will find top-quality Cirrus Logic DACs included in the TX-SR706 to push analog audio performance to even greater levels. These DACs offer 24-bit conversion and support sampling rates of up to 192 kHz, while
displaying high resistance to clock jitter and offering a 120 dB dynamic range.

Music Optimizer to Support Compressed Digital Music Files
While MP3 or AAC files may sound fine on a portable digital player, the limitations of these compressed files can be exposed when played back through a home entertainment system. Onkyo has designed onboard Music Optimizer technology to improve the quality of compressed audio signals. Compressed music loses a substantial amount of bit information at higher frequencies, so the Music Optimizer technology works to overcome this limitation and enhance audio quality.

XM Satellite Radio and SIRIUS Satellite Radio Programming
By using the ports on the TX-SR706's rear, it's possible to access both XM and Sirius Satellite Radio. XM Satellite Radio offers 170 digital channels of radio programming, including 69 commercial-free music channels; over 30 channels of news, sports, talk and entertainment; and over 20 dedicated channels of XM Instant Traffic and Weather. SIRIUS brings access to over 130 digital-quality channels, including 69 channels of 100% commercial-free music, plus exclusive channels of sports, news, talk, entertainment, traffic, weather, and data.

Easy speaker setup with the supplied microphone. Too many features to list. More than enough power for my midsize home theater. Runs hot, but that is normal for this receiver. Great bang for the buck for a mid priced receiver.

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR706B Black THX Select2 Plus 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:

I implemented this in a home theater that sits 8 people. In conjunction with a JVC DILA (we wanted to spend more on the projector!) this receiver is excellent. It's difficult for me to comment much about the power because this is primarily being used as a preamp for Bang and Olufsen speakers. We are using the receiver to power the rear speakers and everything is working excellent.

Been looking at this Onkyo for a year or so, waiting for the price to drop at the local box store, it never did. Surfed & found Onecall's great price on a 'used' one. It arrived in the original box with ALL the papers & I can't find a single thing wrong with it cosmetically. The easiest setup & unbelievable sound now comes out of my speakers! Now I have to watch all my dvds again! Absolutely a perfect product & a perfect experience - [...]Would do it again in a heartbeat.

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR706B Black THX Select2 Plus 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:

Sound quality is very nice and sound stages are simple and easy to understand; have owned yamaha and way too many sound stages and hard to identify differences. I have video set to pass through the receiver at its original format but picture is choppy sometimes and some pixelation occurs. This does not occur when i go straight from my dish box to tv so i know it is the receiver. This is my first onkyo and i just got it so maybe there is some simple adjustment i am missing to correct this issue. This pixelation is not terrible and overall i am very happy with the purchase.

I was working outside the U.S. when i ordered this system for my home two months ago. I had a technician wiring my house for speakers in every room, along with seperate controls for every room in addition to.

I am back at home now, and plan to have the work in my home finished soon, then i will be able to give a better review once evrything is installed.

This is a great unit, especially the Audyssey calibration. I'd been thinking about getting one of these or a higher priced Onkyo for quite some time. Wish I'd done it sooner. Only minor complaint, it does get quite hot even with light use. Make sure you have a well ventilated cabinet.

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR706B Black THX Select2 Plus 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:

Easy set-up. Good sound. Much improved from my Yamaha RX-V1300 in sound quality and clarity for both music and movies. HDMI switching is a plus. Still many features I have yet to use. A nice feature is a cut-off of all lights and unncessary electronics during stereo (music) play. It says it is for reducing interference, but the real nice part is not to have all of the lights on. Universal remote worked perfectly will all other componets using identified codes.

So far this is a great receiver....Unfortunately, I had to return this receiver twice to OneCall (1st time there was a dent in the back of the receiver and the center channel plugs were crooked; plugged receiver in and heard a pop and smelled burn 2) second receiver had only 2 of the 4 HDMI inputs working -[...]....3rd receiver (hopefully last) is working like a charm and I love it!!!

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR706B Black THX Select2 Plus 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:

I use this for a home theater in a large living room. I have never set up this type of product before and I had no problems. I followed the instructions, which at times I had to read a few times to understand, and everything works fine. This system sounds great. The only thing I don't like is the fact that the volume control knob has to be turned up pretty far before you hear any sound.

Comments about Onkyo TX-SR706B Black THX Select2 Plus 7.1-Channel Home Theater Receiver:

[...] If I am rating the receiver, well that's about 4 stars. It's great, don't get me wrong. It is just lacking in a few departments. My biggest complaint is that it seems that the volume does not stay balanced from sound mode to sound mode. And there's not an "across-the-board" nighttime setting (Or if there is, I haven't found it). Still, for the price I paid (and I did a lot of homework on it), I don't feel slighted in the slightest. Not even slightly.

I upgraded from a Pioneer VSX-1015TX which never gave me any problems but, I wanted some of the newer features now offered(i.e.DolbyHD, DTS-HD, HDMI). I read a many reviews before buying this unit, professional and consumer. It's everything they say it is. I use it in a 5.1 system with Mirage satellites and subwoofer and they sound excellent with this receiver. It has enough power and features for just about any setup. If you buy this unit you won't be sorry.

I have my Onkyo receiver in my home theater system and I could not be more pleased. It is also connected to my HD DVR so I receive HD channels as well as Dolby digital 5.1 sound and this receiver acurately selects the best sound processing format to achieve optimum sound. For example, if I'm on one of my premium HD channels it will choose THX cinema. If I'm on a regular channel, it will choose all channel stereo.

Right out of the box this receiver was ready to install. Easy instructions and easy on screen guides made hook up simple and easy. You'll not only be amazed by the sound you thought you were getting on a cheaper receiver, but the picture quality of the 1080P conversion is astonishing. I have Directv, which only offers 1080i currently with fairly good picture, but it can't compare to using the Onkyo receiver's 1080P conversion system. If you're looking for a high end receiver priced in the mid range group, this is it.

This is the second Onkyo 7 series receiver I have owned. I liked the 705 so much that when my neighbor wanted to buy it, I upgraded to the 706. However, here is where the honeymoon ended. After setting up my 7.1 system, I went to complete the audyssey auto seaker setup. The mic is not picking up the test tones. After trying everything I could think of, including calling OneCall, I tried the mic that worked with the 705. It didn't recognize that mic either. If you read reviews on[...]several people are having the same problem. I will call Onkyo CS first thing tomorrow moring to see what they say. NOT GOOD!

Great features, power and connectivity. One real advantage is the number of HDMI inputs. The operating temperature could limit your choices of cabinets and shelving heights. I would think that a unit of this cost could include a cooling fan that discharges to the rear and could be aligned with cabinet vents.
