By dedicating a pair of channels on receivers with this capability, you don’t need an external amplifier to enjoy an independent stereo audio source in a remote room. For example, on higher-end models this allows for a full 5.1 channel movie to be enjoyed in the home theater, while simultaneously sending a song from a CD (or other source) to speakers in another room.

WRAT
Imagine turning up the volume and filling your entertainment room with noise-free, impressively powerful, true-to-life sound. That's the benefit of Wide Range Amplifier Technology. Originally developed for our most expensive high-end amplifiers to handle the sonic demands of today's digital age, you'll now find WRAT even in our lowest-priced A/V receivers. The WRAT family of technologies includes a broader frequency range with lower noise entering the signal path – perfectly suited for new high resolution DVD-Audio and SACD formats.

XM Ready
XM has introduced exciting new products called the XM Mini-Tuner and Home Dock which replaces the Connect-and-Play antenna. The XM Mini-Tuner and Home Dock work with any XM-Ready product — plus the Mini-Tuner enables subscribers to easily move a single subscription from one product to another.

Sirius Ready
SIRIUS brings access to over 130 digital-quality channels, including 69 channels of 100% commercial-free music, plus exclusive channels of sports, news, talk, entertainment, traffic, weather and data. This model has a SIRIUS jack on its rear that connects to an optional SIRIUSConnect home tuner kit.

RI
With Onkyo’s exclusive RI (Remote Interactive) system capability, you can integrate and operate all compatible components through a single remote control. What’s more, RI capability enables you to simply connect the iPod® to your receiver through Onkyo’s RI Dock for the iPod (DS-A1). Your iPod effectively becomes another Onkyo component from which you can relish a fuller sound that just can’t be experienced through headphones. RI capability will also give you remote operability of your iPod for hands-off control over your digital music.

Comments about Onkyo TX-8555 High Fidelity Stereo Receiver:

Just because the tx8555 doesn't have surround is no reason not to include balancing features offered in other surround models. I believe you
call it "Odysey System". It would be nice if my
tx8555 had those features as well!!

Comments about Onkyo TX-8555 High Fidelity Stereo Receiver:

I bought this system for a bedroom widescreen TV and stereo system. This was one of the few basic stereo receivers that offers "pre-out" so I can control another Amplifier with the master volume control. That's what sold me on this unit, besides the great reviews.

Comments about Onkyo TX-8555 High Fidelity Stereo Receiver:

Great product in terms of sound quality, power consumption, ease of use. My main concern is the weak volume dial. It just stopped working at about six months. I don't have the time to go through the process of sending this in for a repair, I just needed it to work. I can still use the remote control to adjust the volume, so that is a plus. I did a search on the internet to see if other people were having similar problems and found that they were. I guess nothing is perfect and we always take a chance of getting that one unit that falls to the right of three standard deviations.

Comments about Onkyo TX-8555 High Fidelity Stereo Receiver:

I used the Onkyo TX-8555 for a multi-zone restaurant installation. It was the source selector and amplifier before the outboard speaker selector / volume control. Not only was it a perfect amplifier, but since my client wanted to use an iPod to play music, it was perfect that I could get the Onkyo iPod dock and they could use the receiver's remote to control it.

Comments about Onkyo TX-8555 High Fidelity Stereo Receiver:

This is a great basic 2-channel stereo receiver. I use it to drive a pair of Magnepan MG-1 stereo speakers, in conjunction with a Sony 40" flat-screen TV.

The receiver has limited capacity for switching video, and is limited to composite video The system would be best for a "traditional" stereo application, rather than a home theatre application.
