Comments about Sony STR-DG820 7.1-channel Home Theater Receiver:

Sony makes great products that usually have 1 or 2 weaknesses. I wish i had known that having a dvi to hdmi cable hooked up would not allow sound to output from my receiver when hooked to my tv; This makes no logical sense; I understand the dvi will not carry sound to the tv, but when hooked up the receiver also doesn't output sound! The remote is too long; I wish sony would make up their minds on how they want to make a remote.

Comments about Sony STR-DG820 7.1-channel Home Theater Receiver:

The operational menus are confusing and non-intuitive. I would like a simple way of controlling individual speaker volume, but that is not part of the control set. Also, the format in and out has to be indentical to operate; you can't have composite in and HDMI out. The whole arrangment has to be the same, so if you have HDMI in from the Blu-Ray and HDMI out to the TV (which does look great by the way), then you can't hook up the Wii (which is composite).

Comments about Sony STR-DG820 7.1-channel Home Theater Receiver:

I used this as our Surround SOund in our main room, which has 14' ceilings and is about 20' x 15'. It has worked great and was very easy to set up and run everything through. I like having the 4 HDMI choices as that makes it easy to expand later.

Great deal

Comments about Sony STR-DG820 7.1-channel Home Theater Receiver:

This receiver sounds great with my Bose speakers.
Plenty of power for my large TV room. The only disappointment was that it does not upscale analog connections through the HDMI connection to the TV. Requiring, in my case, connecting my DVD to the TV with a component cable. This problem will be solved when I update to a Blu-Ray DVD.

STR-DG820 - Good bang for the buck

Comments about Sony STR-DG820 7.1-channel Home Theater Receiver:

The STR-DG820 was a replacement for a previous SONY receiver I had for 8 years. I considered upgrading and purchased more expensive Denon and Onkyo for eval. When evaluating both, I discovered digital sources (Coax/DVD, Optical/CATV box) could not be routed to Zone 2 or the 'B' set of speakers on either of the units. This Sony has a basic feature offering but it does offer the ability to route ALL inputs to Speakers A/B (Zone 1 and 2). It also offers decent sounds fields and a audio quality is good. The only knock on this receiver is the EQ section is limited – no midrange control, the bass and treble are fixed frequency. If you are looking for a good value and basic features, this receiver will check the box.

Comments about Sony STR-DG820 7.1-channel Home Theater Receiver:

Excellent receiver. This has many of the features I wanted including 7.1 (which Blu-Ray is coded in). 4 HDMI inputs and one HDMI output going to the 1080p flat screen make this the center of my home theater setup. The only downside to this receiver is the remote is from the stone ages. Every time I want to use functionality in to the receiver I have to relearn how to use the remote. Do yourself a favor and buy a Logitech Harmony One remote which learns the IR commands of all your other remotes and replaces them with a single remote.
