Have a big room? Have the need for BIG, life-like bass impact? Then the PSW505 is the subwoofer for you. More than a mere brute, the PSW505 is equally at home reproducing all the subtle nuance of a plucked string bass as it is belting out a rocket`s roar. Full-featured and over-powered, the PSW505 will rock your world and tick off your neighbors.

Slot Load Venting improves bass response. The wide, long Slot Load Vent dramatically lessens turbulence, noise and distortion, pouring out a tidal wave of precise, thunderous bass!

Polk subs sound better because they're built better. Rock-solid MDF construction (including a 1 inch thick front baffle) suppresses enclosure panel resonance for distortion-free, accurate response.

Most powered subwoofers are good for just gut-rumble and boom. Polk understands that you listen to music too so our subs are tight, precise and accurate.

Adjustable low pass crossover, phase switch and volume control allows perfect blending with any main speaker.

Auto on/off circuit that automatically turns your subwoofer on when it senses a program signal. When no signal is present, the amplifier turns off within 15 minutes

Pro-grade 5-way binding posts speaker inputs and outputs.

Magnetically shielded for safe, flexible placement next to a TV or video monitor.

Comments about Polk Audio PSW505 Black 12-inch 300-watt Powered Subwoofer:

Now this is what a Sub should sound like. Very rich and deep. I have it connected via Monster Sub cable to LFE from my Pioneer Elite SC-05 receiver. MCACC calibration set this a little too low for my taste. I adjusted accordingly and now have it dialed in. It is simply fantastic. This sub plays music very well. It picks up all the subtle nuances. Pandora Radio sounds just great with my B&W M1 speakers and this Sub. It complements my system perfectly. HT is where it is at for me. This thing will ROCK your house. Explosions literally shake my walls and floor. It never misses a beat. This is why you want a 12" Sub. Polk does it again. Another fine product. By this before they are all gone as it is a discontinued item.[...]

I have the subwoofer used in a 12 x 20 room as part of 7.1 setup. This is complimented by Polk Audio in wall RC series speakers and Yamaha rxv663 receiver. Playing music from the tuner was remarkable....clear and crisp. In playing a few movies you get the true experience when movies are digitally enhanced for theater experience( e.g Star Wars, Ice Age, etc) Bottom line is this is a great sub at a great price.

Comments about Polk Audio PSW505 Black 12-inch 300-watt Powered Subwoofer:

I use this sub in a basic 5.1 HD Sound setup. Have a Onkyo receiver and all Polk Audio Monitor Series to compliment this beast.

I'm in a basic size living room for an apartment, and it rocks this portion of the building if I want it to. And I know this would be more than accommodating to a large home theater room.

The only con, that actually isn't really a con, is that this baby ways a ton. But that's cool with me.

Comments about Polk Audio PSW505 Black 12-inch 300-watt Powered Subwoofer:

The 505 works very well in the lower bass region with some boominess in the upper above 90hz. With 300 watts and another 150 for dymanic headroom you have a good amount of power, but be carefull as the volume goes up use will loose tightness in upper bass. Set the volume at 1 o'clock and use the LFE input will afford you a great sound that blends well.

Comments about Polk Audio PSW505 Black 12-inch 300-watt Powered Subwoofer:

Restores the missing bassline in a lot of rock and hiphop. It's very directional, but careful placement can resolve that issue. Excellent power, nice controls (variable frequency cut, variable volume), auto standby mode. I like the cube shape. Well made, quality product. I think there's a resonant peak somewhere around 60 or 70 Hz but really it's an excellent subwoofer. Makes my house sound as if there's a club upstairs.

Comments about Polk Audio PSW505 Black 12-inch 300-watt Powered Subwoofer:

I currently use this sub in a small room. It's not the room it's gonna be staying in, but in any event... This sub pumps out so much bass that it shakes everything in the house! From dishes rattling in the kitchen that's two rooms away, to everything in the computer room that's on the second floor. I call it comically loud probably because of the fact that I have it in a bedroom for now. The sliding mirror doors on my closet vibrate like crazy from the opposite side of the room. There honestly isn't one bad thing I have to say about it.

I use the PSW505 for my home theater and it slams. I have it matched with "cs1 center, T-90E for the fronts, and Fxi's 3 for the rears", it blends in perfectly. It sound great even at loud volume and their is no vibration from the box when it is hitting, so that is good. All in all, it is a very good sub and I would recommend it to anyone looking to shake some windows.

We use the speaker with our home theater. No fancy setup - just a stereo plus the Polk subwoofer. It added that low-level bass that makes watching at home much more theater-like. It also makes the stereo sound better and cleaner - I imagine because the regular speakers don't need to reproduce the lows.

I use the sub for home theatre and music. It is replacing a huge dual 15 inch cabinet. It sounds great and my wife certainly does not miss the huge old subwoofer in our family room. I just wish it came in a natural wood finished cabinet. We don't like the black finish so we hide it behind the sofa.

When the unit arrived, it was wobbly. I had to loosen several of the feet to make it level and steady. After connection, I noticed a lot of vibration of the enclosure during certain bass passages. (I was only playing at 1/3 volume.) This obviously ruined the sound of the movie. I returned the unit for a refund. I don't know if this is typical of the unit, or I got a "lemon" off the assembly line.

Replaces a PSW450 that died out after a storm and 8 years on my higher-end (8 year old) Onyko 6.1 home theatre system with Infiniti front and Polk side & rears in a 25 by 25 ft. great room with 16ft ceilings. Better sounding than old one. Really high bass will crack it 'cause of the amp, but couldn't justify $400 more for bigger amp. The auto-shut off is great feature old one didn't have.

Comments about Polk Audio PSW505 Black 12-inch 300-watt Powered Subwoofer:

I decided to go ahead and purchase something with a little kick. Oh yeah, this speaker will rattle the walls. My system is an Onkyo SR-606 receiver / amplifier with the Polk Audio surroundbar50. The surroundbar50 speaker has a build high pass filter with a cuttoff freq of 120hz. This works great because the subwoofer has a low pass filter with a maximum cutoff freq of 120hz. Match made in heaven. The subwoofer is hooked up as recommended in the surroundbar50 literature, that is directly from the front speaker out into the speaker level inputs on the subwoofer. The sub turns on automatically with even the smallest audio signal so I don't have to worry about flipping the "on" switch each time. It would be nice to have a remote control to adjust the volume but not a big deal to me.

Because sub is side-firing, must be careful when vacuuming or walking close by to avoid damage to grille. Otherwise, an excellent quality product, both in design/quality and in sound.

Comments about Polk Audio PSW505 Black 12-inch 300-watt Powered Subwoofer:

This sub is amazing. I got it at a GREAT deal and I can't believe how much I actually got for my money. This thing puts out some BOOMING bass while it also can put out some very subtle sounds such as the bass reverberating inside a wooden cello. It is absolutely perfect for movies. It really makes you feel like you're watching your movies in a theater. Bottom line. This thing rocks, bumps, booms, and possibly damages the foundation of your house! It is a wonderful product, and I'll be looking to Polk Audio in the future. Step aside BOSE, Polk is comin' to town!!

Comments about Polk Audio PSW505 Black 12-inch 300-watt Powered Subwoofer:

The only subwoofers I owned prior were the passive sub that came with the Bose Accoustimass system I bought in '98 and the powered sub that came with a Yamaha HTIB system I was given. Both were nothing compared to this subwoofer and I could kick myself for not getting a sub of this caliber earlier but I honestly didn't realize a subwoofer this strong and clean could be obtained for less than maybe $1000. I was so floored by the sound quality I watched 4 movies in a row the first day I hooked it up. Killer price, incredible warm, deep yet tight sound. BUY IT.

I first added this to my pair of Polk Monitor 7s - yeah, they're 30 years old but they still sound great. We listened to some classical CDs we've owned a long time and heard music depth we never heard before, and the subwoofer's volume was turned to only 35%.

Then we moved the 505 to our new home theater. It puts you inside the scenes - explosions are truly awesome! Now we have to add sound insulation to the room...

I use this sub on my 3rd floor, powered by my Onkyo 705. I was worried about it being too loud in the rest of the house. To my surprise (after some testing) you can really only hear/feel it when you are in the room.

Best part is that when you are in the room... you definitely feel/hear it..

This is by far the best sub I have owned.

I listed it being heavy as a con, but really.. what would you want/expect for a 12" powered sub??? :-)

Comments about Polk Audio PSW505 Black 12-inch 300-watt Powered Subwoofer:

Just like my title states this is an excellent sub for the price. The foam surround aids in making it produce very tight mid to upper bass for that really nice "slam" feeling. Where it does falter a little is the really low end rumble with difficult material like "The Dark Knight." (Dolby TRUE HD on Blu-Ray) Now, I run two subs in my setup which each get a split signal from the sub out on my Marantz SR 7002 receiver. My other sub is an HSU Research VTF-MK3 w/turbo. Obviously, compared to the HSU, the Polk pales with the extreme low end especially (the HSU is a lot more expensive and larger though). But that's where it works out for me because I wanted the Polk for its really tight mid to upper bass. This works great with music, gunshots and explosions. However, during some scenes in "The Dark Knight" (like when the film switches location to Tokyo for the first time with the fly over of the city) there is extended low end bass which caused some "chuffing" or port noise with a 50% volume on the Polk. This was a non issue when I turned it down to about the 10 o'clock position. I usually keep it no higher than the 12 o'clock position and this was the first movie that I noticed any such noise from but I wanted to mention it nonetheless.
Finally, compared to my old Polk PSW450 (which I've since sold) the PSW 505 plays louder and hits harder at lower volumes and feels tighter and less "boomy." Of course, the 300 watts RMS (compared to 150 on the PSW 450) and the foam surround (compared to rubber on the PSW 450) makes a large part of the difference. I had my old Polk for 6 years and it still worked great. I was a little worried about the longevity of the foam surround on the PSW 505 but for the price that One Call offers this it is a real non-issue and I would definitely recommend it to others as a second sub or as a single one as long as they know of its limitations with the extreme low end (below 30 htz, I'd say). You're going to be hard pressed to find something more powerful at this price point.

I am using this subwoofer with an onkyo tx-sr606 receiver and satellites from a klipsch promedia 5.1 system (the sub/amp failure of that system prompted this purchase). I wanted a well-performing subwoofer in the mid-range of pricing, and the psw505 fits the bill. I live in an apartment, so I haven't cranked it way up, but from what I have heard so far, it really seems like this can put out all the bass you would need in a mid to upper range home theater system. So far, I am very happy with the purchase. The bass is full, but not ringy or overpowering. It sounds great with movies or music, and the box is aesthetically pleasing enough that you don't have to hide it in a corner somewhere. [...]

I went to Best Buy and they had the 110 so I purchased it knowing i would return it. I just wanted to hear the difference and there was a remarkable difference. I have the volume at about 35% which apparently is common. The movies I watch now feel like the theater ones. I never had a good subwoofer before because I thought it wasn't worth the price increase. WRONG. It is very impressive and when I want to crank it up on a few songs it rattles anything not stuck to the gound. Had to rearrange some decorations so there was no distraction. As for distortion, I was amazed as to how little there was when cranked up to 75%.

i like a good amount of bass and punch in my system. Just upgraded to a 7.1 setup and found this product from last years stock for dirt cheap. Comparable subs from this year are AT LEAST double the price to get a similar wattage. This one definitely has some headroom for an average room size. Sounds great and definitely saved me some cash.

Comments about Polk Audio PSW505 Black 12-inch 300-watt Powered Subwoofer:

I recently upgraded to a 5.1 surround sound receiver and looked everywhere for a great powered subwoofer. From price range to quality, I found the Polk Audio PSW505 was best for both price and quality. This sub has power, but, in my opinion, the high surround on the sub is a great featuer, but isn't made of lasting material. This is why I give this sub a 4 out of 5. Other then that, the sub is great. Plus if the sub ever goes out, i can always replace it with a better sub. The cabinet is very nice looking and produces awsome bass that expands throughout the room.

I purchased this Polk Audio PSW505 sub to compliment my Cerwin Vega front left, right, and center speakers and in ceiling surrounds. My old Vega sub wasn't a powered sub, so I was in the market for one. I have this set up in a fairly large 18x20 room. It's perfect for action movies with explosions you can FEEL! The rest of the system consists of a 52" Sharp Aquos LCD (LC 52D64U), LG DN798 DVD player (upconverting 1080P), and Onkyo TX-SR605B A/V receiver. I use this set up mostly with home theater, but it sounds very good listening to music as well. Sounds just right... not boomy at all. I highly recommend this product!
