The heart of your home theater. That's the best way to think of your home theater receiver.
Sure, it doesn't get as much attention as your HDTV gets for that gorgeous picture, or your speakers get for that realistic sound. But actually, you wouldn't enjoy all of that A/V excitement without a receiver.
So, what is a receiver? It's a component that takes the audio and video signals from your CD, DVD, or Blu-ray player, decodes them, and sends them all to the right places.
At OneCall, we offer home audio receivers for sale, as well as state-of-the-art home theater receivers.
How to shop for receivers
Here are a few factors to consider as you shop:
- Stereo vs. home theater: If you're a real music aficionado, and you plan to mainly listen to stereo sources like a CD player, satellite radio, or iPod®, look for a stereo receiver. On the other hand, if you want multichannel home theater excitement for movies, sports, and other types of shows, look for a home theater receiver (offering 5.1 channels or more).
- Number of channels: For years, 5.1 surround sound was the standard. Now, more home theater receivers offer 7.1 channels—and some even go up to 9.3! That's enough audio to fill several rooms with music. For more information about surround sound formats and number of channels, read our Receiver Buying Guide.
- Connectivity: Recently, we've seen more receivers with WiFi®, which allows you to stream music directly from your computer and listen via your home theater. That's a huge plus over listening through your computer's small speakers. And several audio receivers for sale can connect to a separate iPod dock, and even let you control your iPod using the receiver's remote.
