A Trade off Between Performance and Size For years the subwoofer design battle has been between high performance and size. With the advent of flat screen television, the trend has been to incorporate small on-wall or in-wall speakers that cosmetically complement these stylish TVs. However, even more so than with tower speakers, these smaller speakers deliver anemic bass, leaving their home theater systems sounding shallow, thin, and lacking in dynamic, deep bass. To produce the lowest frequencies with sufficient output has traditionally required big subwoofers that are totally out of place in a room designed around a flat screen TV. With the SPL Series II, Velodyne has solved this bass dilemma.

Powerful Amps
The SPL Series II`s incredibly small size is just the beginning. These new subs feature the latest generation of Velodyne`s patented "ERS" (Energy Recovery System) Class-D digital amplifiers. Each subwoofer is driven by 2000 watts of Dynamic Power to deliver all the impact and excitement of the most dramatic special effects. And, with 1000 watts of continuous RMS power they accurately reproduce the lowest musical frequencies with detail and definition not found in any other subwoofers in their price range regardless of size. Rated at over 95% efficiency, the "ERS" amps used in the SPL Series II generate minimal heat, making them incredibly reliable.

Massive Drivers
To compliment these powerful amplifiers Velodyne has developed massive drivers with multi-layer, Kevlar reinforced, resin cones mounted in die-cast aluminum baskets. Each driver incorporates a unique, inside/outside, two-layer copper voice coil that assures linear travel, and allows for the heat dissipation needed to handle the gigantic power delivered by the ERS amps. These technological breakthroughs in amplifier and speaker design allow the SPL Series II subs to create room-shaking bass for home theater applications in spite of their tiny sizes. Low Distortion. In addition, Velodyne`s exclusive distortion limiting "Dynamic Driver Control System" assures the tight, accurate, musical bass for which Velodyne is world famous."DDCS" is an active, signal-based system incorporating several exclusive technologies from Velodyne that assure linear cone movement, and control the driver`s frequency and distortion characteristics. This reduces the distortion to 1/6th that of competitive subwoofers.
